Join Alex Weinstein &amp; Merrick Jacob for a daylong immersion into Contact Improvisation on Saturday, December 17th from 11:00am - 6:00pm at The Center SF! This workshop is for those who are excited about going deeper in the form; whether you’ve taken a couple classes or are a first-timer, all are welcome! We’ll spend the day together exploring and having fun with some essential elements of contact improv; from weight sharing, falling &amp; flying, to using the form as a vehicle for personal research and compositional perspectives as a tool for generating creativity. We’ll have a morning session, break for lunch, afternoon session, and then will cap the day with a discovery session that includes the opportunity for 1:1 dances with Merrick and Alex for personalized feedback.By the end of the day together, we hope that you feel more confident in your contact improvisation practice, starting to move from: “what is this thing?...this feels awkward…what should I do?” to “Oh YES I’m getting it!!” and gain excitement around all the possibilities to come from continuing going deeper in the form, maybe for many years to come :)About Merrick &amp; AlexMerrick Jacob (she/her) is a lover of movement, continuously in awe of the body and its potential for unique expression, creativity, &amp; authentic connection. Influenced by her practices of figure skating, acroyoga, hand-balancing, and contact improv, she guides playful movement experiences as an opportunity for deep listening, exploration, and co-creation. She is a certified acroyoga instructor with AcroRevolution &amp; AcroYoga Montréal. Merrick studied a variety of somatic movement therapy modalities with Dynamic Embodiment &amp; The Moving On Center: School of Participatory Arts &amp; Somatic Research, focusing on BodyMind Centering &amp; Laban Movement Analysis. Deeply inspired by his teachers such as Nancy Stark Smith, Angelika Doniy, and Andrew Harwood; Alex has danced and taught on four continents. For him, CI is so much more than just a dance form.
