Understanding Implicit Bias and its Impact on Healthcare Leadership

We are the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. We currently have over 800 members, and a team of about 40 members committed to support your goals to connect, succeed, learn, advance and lead in the healthcare industry.We hope that you will take advantage of our chapter events and resources – and if you are interested in becoming more involved we hope that you reach out and let us know. ACHE of Indiana

This program will focus on the healthcare leader’s personal recognition of internal bias and its impact on decisions in the organization.

The communities in which healthcare organizations operate are rapidly diversifying. Not only do they provide care for a diverse community of patients and families, but their workforce is also growing more diverse. It is incumbent on healthcare organizations and their leaders to both understand and embrace the needs of diverse populations. Their ability to respond to the needs and preferences of a broader customer base will be critical to their financial and operational survival, but they first must understand what their implicit biases are to do that. The goal of the session is for leaders to understand and recognize internal biases both conscious and unconscious. The impact of the healthcare leaders’ ability to recognize biases in areas such as employment and policy decision-making will lead to increased diversity in individuals holding leadership positions and will help us better serve the communities we are in. This program has been developed and is presented locally by iHEN. The American College of Healthcare Executives has awarded 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face Education Credits to this program.

*iHEN encourages, but does not require, all registrants to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19. Masks will be available for registrants if they desire one, but will not be required. Additionally, there are hand sanitizer stations throughout the public space. iHEN will follow onsite protocols, working with local public health officials. iHEN will inform  participants about changes in guidelines immediately if they change. 
We will monitor for developments and adjust our conference protocol as needed to ensure safety for all registrants.
