Spatiotemporal Innovation Workshop on Social Media Sentiment Analysis

Spatiotemporal Innovation Lab for Big Data is an affiliate lab of the Future Data Lab. The lab aims to develop spatiotemporal methods which are repeatable, replicable, and scalable for worldwide research collaboration on big data analysis. Co-sponsored by the Spatial Data Lab (http://spatialdatalab.org) and Spatiotemporal Innovation Lab for Big Data, this workshop will focus on the sentiment analysis in social media.Requirement: The hands-on training workshop is free to apply and the number of participants is limited to 15 people. It is desirable that those applicants have some background in geographic analysis. Each participant is expected to complete a group project. Those who complete the course and participate in the group project will receive a certificate. Those outstanding students will be invited to join the research team of the Spatiotemporal Innovation Lab for Big Data.Agenda:8:30 pm - 11:00 pm (U.S. Eastern Time), 11/28/2022 (Monday), 11/29/2022 (Tuesday), and 12/02/2022 (Friday)November 28 (Day One): Introduction to KNIME Analytics PlatformContents: (1) KNIME download and installation; (2) Environment configuration for script nodes; (3) Software interface and main functions; (4) Sample workflows;Assignment: (1) Install KNIME software on local PC; (2) load and execute KNIME workflows on local PCNovember 29 (Day Two): Case studies on the sentiment analysis in social media data.Contents: (1) Introduction to the sentiment analysis on social media; (2) Case study on the sentiment analysis on GeoTweet and Weibo data; (3) The workflow design for the sentiment analysis; (4) The reproduction and expansion of the workflow, including data replacement, model modification, and analytical functions.Assignment: Reproduce and expand the case study by replacing data, methods, or improve the visualization by groups.December 02 (Day There): Presentation and discussion on the group reportContents: Participants present their group work on expanded workflow with new data.Application: To apply, please sumit your application, including your research interests and CV before November 11, 2022 at 11:59pm (U.S. Eastern Time).*The Spatial Data Lab is a joint project supported by the Center for Geographical Analysis at Harvard University, Future Data Lab, KNIME, and the NSF Spatiotemporal Innovation Center, which is designed to promote repeatable, replicable, and scalable spatiotemporal innovation research and global collaboration in related fields.
