You already know your work should be scripted, but don't know where to start? Do you feel you’ve reached a Python plateau? If you’ve taken an “Intro to Python” class (or two?) but haven’t kept up with programming on a regular basis, this workshop will help keep the momentum going. Over the course of two days, starting with a small Python language refresher, we will build new tools that can immediately be applied to your design work. The workshop will also serve as an introduction to the most popular code libraries type designers use to edit their fonts, make interfaces, and build proofs.
Above all, the workshop aims to leave the students with the resources they need to really start using the Python language on a daily basis to strengthen their typeface design work.

Andy Clymer is a typeface designer and developer at <A HREF="http://www.typography.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">H&Co</A>. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design from <A HREF="http://art.sdsu.edu/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">San Diego State University</A> and a Master of Design degree in type design from the <A HREF="http://new.typemedia.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Type & Media</A> postgraduate course at the <A HREF="http://www.kabk.nl/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten</A>(Royal Academy of Art) in The Hague, Netherlands. While in The Hague, Andy was influenced heavily by the notion that type designers have had for centuries of building one’s own tools for the job — mechanical bits and pieces, historically, and now bits and pieces of software. This carries through into his role at H&Co where he contributes both to the design of retail and custom typefaces and to the software that helps produce them. Since joining H&Co in 2005, Andy has worked on Vitesse, Forza, Ideal Sans, and more recently, spearheaded <A HREF="https://www.typography.com/fonts/operator/overview/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Operator</A> and <A HREF="https://www.typography.com/fonts/obsidian/overview/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Obsidian</A>.
Frank Grießhammer has been working as a type designer and font developer with Adobe since 2011. Before coming to California, he graduated from the Type and Media masters program at the Royal Academy of The Hague in 2010, worked for FSI FontShop International in Berlin, and studied graphic design at Saarbrücken, Germany, and Florence, Italy.
