Sanahara Ama Chandra and Hannah Brancato are two artists and change-makers who meet in the power of collective storytelling, and the healing power of art. Our interdisciplinary creative practices enact and model ways to move from pain to power, and from isolation to collective experiences.Ama and Hannah are currently co-creatingDreamseeds, an installation of textiles, sound, and interactive components that invites current and budding activists and visionaries in Baltimore to develop visions for the future, at Gallery CA, October 7-November 11, 2022.

Join us for our next Dreamseeds workshop! Christina Cook will lead this Qigong workshop to share the power of this ancient practice in intentionally moving your energy. Qigong is the practice of combining restorative breathwork with positive visualization and rejuvenating movement.

About the facilitator: Christina Cook is a Baltimore-born and -based artist and musician. As a special needs parent seeking rhythm and movement-based social activities for her child living with autism, she founded Rhythm Key in 2014. Beginning as a drum circle for special needs families, Rhythm Key focused on using percussion and movement to bridge communication and social barriers to celebrate differences in ability and neurodiversity. Christina, known affectionately in her community as “Mama Chris,” has since been able to expand on knowledge of dance and African/Afro Caribbean percussion to continue to connect with youth and families both locally and nationwide. Her work has expanded from free weekly drum workshops for ALL AGES, ALL ALL ABILITIES, to pop-up style drum meditations for seniors and veterans, call and response drum jams for those with communication and learning challenges, and expression circles for youth in classrooms and in after school programs.About the exhibition: Move Slowly: Dreamseeds is on view at Gallery CA, at 440 E Oliver St, from October 21-November 18. Move Slowly: Dreamseeds is a visionary exhibition and community healing space, co-created by Hannah Brancato and Sanahara Ama Chandra. This community healing space and art exhibit features visual and sound “portraits” of five anti-sexual violence activists: Ignacio Rivera, Jadelynn St Dre, Alexis Flanagan, Sanahara Ama Chandra, and Nuala Cabral; and workshop participants from a series of five community workshops in Baltimore. These pieces create a heart filling homage to those who are dreaming and fighting their way into freedom, and a roadmap to help us head in that direction.Dreamseeds is a space to honor our visions for the future. Co-created by Sanahara Ama Chandra and Hannah Brancato, we started from a place of understanding that, from all of our individual and collective experiences ranging from our points of pain to our points of bliss, we have inside of us sparks of ideas that are the seeds with which we can co-create a new world.
