Learn about the sensory experience and sleep from the author of “The man who tasted words” and “The nocturnal brain”!

Prof Guy Leschziner teaches Neurology and Sleep medicine at King's College London, as well as being a consultant neurologist in various hospitals and a clinical lead for the Sleep Disorders Centre at Guy's Hospital. He is currently researching sleep disorders like narcolepsy, sleepwalking and restless leg syndrome; and also, Kleine-Levin syndrome. 

Prof Leschziner is the author of two books: “The man who tasted words” and “The nocturnal brain”. 

“The man who tasted words” reveals that our senses are not actually showing us the true world, they give us a reconstructed perception of it, a sort of translation. To illustrate this he tells us about extreme cases of abnormal sensory experiences like a man who gets a taste each time he hears a word or a woman who sees colours when she hears music.

“The nocturnal brain” explores the neuroscience of sleep, taking the reader through sleeping disorder cases Dr Leschziner has seen. It goes from more common disorders like insomnia, sleep apnea, sleepwalking, sleep paralysis and narcolepsy to more unknown disorders like cataplexy, REM sleep behaviour and sexomnia.
