<H2>Friday Night Photo Shoot</H2>
<P>As part of Union Depot Train Day, a special night photo session will be held on Friday, May 4 beginning at 8 p.m. The photo session will begin at Union Depot, and will feature Soo Line GP7 locomotive No. 559 in its iconic maroon and gold colors. Also on hand will be Burlington Northern SD9 No. 6234. Both these locomotives are new to Train Day this year.</P>
<P>Then participants will drive to the Minnesota Transportation Museum’s Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul, where Great Northern SDP40 No. 325 will be posed for photographs on the roundhouse turntable. The engine is still painted in Burlington Northern Cascade green colors, and will be restored with to its BN 6399 number for the photo shoot. This will be one of the last times the locomotive will be able to be photographed in its green colors, as plans are to repaint the engine in Great Northern Railway Big Sky Blue colors in 2019.</P>
<P>The night photo session will be conducted by professional photographer Steve Smedley and will use AlienBees flash lighting. Participants at the night photo session should plan to bring a tripod and a camera that has the ability for the shutter to remain open (cameras on phones will not be able to “catch” the flash but may work under existing lighting conditions).</P>
<P>Tickets for the photo shoot are $25. You may also purchase tickets to the LakerRail multimedia railroad photo program on May 5 at Union Depot, tickets for that event are also $25. However, if you purchase a ticket to both events the cost drops to $40.</P>
<H2>Saturday Multimedia Show</H2>
<P>The second “LakerRail” event will held at the Union Depot in St. Paul on Saturday, May 5. Held every other year, LakerRail is similar to Winterail on the West Coast and Summerail in Ohio with an exhibition of railroad photos and videos set to music. This year’s program features the work of railfan photographers from across the United States, including several contributors to Trains Magazine. Presenting the shows at Union Depot allows viewers to enjoy the programs in a historic setting related to railroads.</P>
<P>LakerRail will run from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Red Cap Room at Union Depot. Programs will run 15 to 20 minutes each with hourly breaks. A two-hour dinner break will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will take place the same day as Union Depot Train Day, which features exhibits of railroad equipment, model railroads, and rail oriented vendors.</P>

<H3>Along the Route of the Northern Pacific Transcon: St. Paul to Auburn, Washington</H3>
<H4>Mike Bargmann</H4>
<P>Mike will present a modern day overview of the Northern Pacific transcontinental mainline. Now operated by BNSF Railway and Montana Rail Link, the former NP runs through diverse scenery including the Badlands of North Dakota, Bozeman and Mullan Passes, Yakima Canyon and Stampede Pass.</P>
<H3>Mousse au Québec</H3>
<H4>Nick Benson</H4>
<P>Recent railfanning adventures from the UP mainline in Omaha, Nebraska to the isolated ore haulers of Quebec's north coast.</P>
<H3>Twelve Years Railfanning Canadian Pacific's Paynesville Subdivision<BR></H3>
<H4>Shawn Christie</H4>
<P>Shawn’s program highlights his railfanning adventures along the Canadian Pacific's former Soo Line Paynesville Subdivision over the past dozen years. Site and sounds include the CP Holiday Train and Royal Canadian Pacific F units, and includes footage shot with a drone.<BR></P>
<H3>DM&E: Into South Dakota’s Van Metre Triangle</H3>
<H4>Jerry Huddleston and Mike Savona</H4>
<P>It’s said that when trains enter the former Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern PRC Subdivision between the Missouri River and the Black Hills of South Dakota, they can disappear for days or longer. Jerry and Mike will present photographic and video evidence to show what happens when trains enter the “Van Metre Triangle.” Now operated by the Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad, their video/digital show will be centered on the PRC, and include additional shots of the Black Hills Subdivision.</P>
<H3>Crossing the Alps</H3>
<H4>Scott Lothes</H4>
<P>Europe’s Alpine railways help unite the continent thanks to some remarkable feats of civil engineering, but new tunnels are replacing much of this remarkable 19th-century infrastructure. Scott Lothes’s program explores Austria’s Semmering Railway as well as the Loetchsberg and Gotthard passes of Switzerland.</P>
<H3>Forty-Five Years of Winter Photography</H3>
<H4>Don Marson</H4>
<P>45 Years of Winter Photography includes images taken in at least thirteen states and three Canadian provinces. Don’s presentation will look at winter operations both past and present, with an emphasis on his home New England territory filled out by regions where he lived during his railroad career. Many of these lines have been abandoned, while others have been sold.</P>
<H3>Short Line Railroads of Central Illinois</H3>
<H4>Steve Smedley</H4>
<P>Well-known photographer Steve Smedley has been tracking railroads in his native Illinois for nearly 50 years. His program will document the changes in short line railroading in the Land of Lincoln.</P>
<H3>The Photography of Jim Boyd, Some of Our Favorites</H3>
<H4>Craig Willett and Mike Schafer, with Eric Larson</H4>
<P>This program will feature some of Mike and Craig’s favorite photos taken by well-known rail photographer and long time editor of Railfan & Railroad Magazine, the late Jim Boyd. Jim was a friend of Mike and Craig’s for over 50 years. Many of the images in the program have never been published.</P>
<H3>California: San Francisco to the Sierra</H3>
<H4>Steven M. Welch</H4>
<P>Steven Welch has traveled extensively around California, including stints working for railroads in the Golden State. He is well known for his dynamic photographs of railroads in action, and will present some of his unique images of railroading in California.<BR></P>
