"Artist, Producer, AND Bassist - JAMAALADEEN TACUMAJamaaladeen has always stretched the mold of what and how a bassist is supposed to play. He has re-defined his instrument's artistic potential. In the 1970's, his creatively free approach to the bass caught the eye of saxophonist Ornette Coleman. Tacuma became a member of Coleman's Prime Time. He toured with and performed on some of Coleman's historic recordings : "Dancing In Your Head", "Body Meta", and "Of Human Feelings". Tacuma continued to press the musical envelope with his debut album in 1983 entitled "Showstopper" and  latest historical recordings “FOR THE LOVE OF ORNETTE” features Ornette Coleman and Bon Vivant with Free Form Funky Freqs is  a trio with Vernon Reid and G.Calvin Weston He has worked with diverse artists: Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Marc Ribot, Derek Bailey, Pharoah Sanders, Grover Washington Jr., Peter Murphy, The Roots among others. He has worked with orchestras led by Anthony Davis at Carnegie Hall. And in the past few years he is recognized for his artistic excellence worldwide with  the"PARALLEL CULTURE" AWARD2009, Marcus Garvey Foundation 50th Anniversary Award 2011,  The Pew Fellowship in the Arts 2011 and theThe Uptown Theater Hall of Fame Award.  He has received The MacDowell Colony, Headlands Center for the Arts and Civitella Ranieri residency fellowships. Jamaaladeen continues to tour, produce and record worldwide.

On November 19 at The Painted Bride Arts Center, 5212 Market St 19139, the fest continues with Outsiders Improvised &amp; Creative Music Festival Explores the Metaverse: This in-person event will be live streamed into virtual reality via The Ropeadope Lounge (TRL), featuring a film screening of “Battle of Images; a tribute To Paul Robeson” and a live musical performance by “Strings &amp; Things” Jamaaladeen Tacuma, bass; Mary Halvorson, guitar and Tomas Fujiwara, drums. This unique presentation joins the world of live music with the VR world of attendees around the world. The full live performance and film screening will broadcast into VR for avatars to watch, and the VR world will be beamed back to the Painted Bride on their movie screen. Following the performance, there will be an afterparty in VR, where fans can chat with the musicians and each other. Doors at 6pm , Screening at 6:30 PM, Music at 7pm MORE ABOUT THE EVENT As our lives become increasingly hectic with work and family responsibilities we have less and less time for pure “fun” . Play can relieve stress, stimulate creativity and help you relax. During the Covid 19 pandemic for the first time everyone in our community had to self isolate, and severely limit in person activities , leading to a sense of loneliness and loss . Musicians felt unable to do what they have spent a lifetime doing - entertain . One outlet we have all adapted are virtual zoom meetings that help us “simulate” in person exchanges. Zoom helped keep music education going,  live streaming allowed musicians to perform virtually to an eager audience. Both adults and children quickly adapted to this new reality as 2020 Covid 19 lockdown took place. Over the past 2 years technology is rapidly evolving to make even more immersive virtual communication possible  and more accessible to the average person  in ways that were just a “sci-fi fantasy “ 10 years ago. Virtual Reality (VR) immersive environments in the “metaverse” are now  surprisingly accessible and a new entertainment industry is evolving to offer not just children but adults healthy ways to communicate, play and share creatively in the metaverse. Jamaaladeen’s music label, Ropeadope, has created a Virtual Reality space - The Ropeadope Lounge  (TRL) - on the Altspace platform. A safe space for music fans and creatives to gather, exchange ideas, and be entertained in the Metaverse.From Ropeadope “The Ropeadope Lounge (TRL) on NFTOasis (NFTO) - This is our meeting place in VR, the spot where events happen and people can walk through the world of Ropeadope. Accessible with a VR headset OR on a computer, TRL will be open always, with specific events scheduled each week. Interviews with artists, mixers, parties, art exhibits, music classes and discussions, community gatherings, and more will happen in this space”The pandemic illustrated to Jamaaladeen that the world needs more ways to engage with each other, we can not rely solely on a traditional concert for a fulfilling entertaining experience and that creatives and presenters  must adapt to the changing world.  As much as live streaming is wonderful it shines a light on the fact that the concert experience is about more than simply watching a live band, it's about community, being with your friends and enjoying the experience together  . VR is a new frontier where you can do just that and Jamaaladeen is eager to explore its limitless potential. Jamaaladeen is collaborating with Ropeadope and The Painted Bride Arts Center to produce an event that will take place in the “real world” and the  virtual reality simultaneously.  This event will increase audience engagement on multiple levels, introducing TRL to the audience with real hands on experience for those unfamiliar with VR and at the same time, give the audience in the VR an introduction to The Painted Bride Arts Center , the artists participating in the event, offering valuable exchanges between humans and avatars from around the world. The event will feature a live in person audience with a a film screening of Battle of Images a musical tribute to Paul Robeson. And a musical performance with Strings &amp; Things ; Jamaaladeen Tacuma Bass, Mary Halvorson Guitar, and Tomas Fujiwara drums in the “real world “ at The Painted Bride Arts Center that  will be live streamed into the The Ropeadope Lounge where the avatar guests hanging out in the TRL will be able to watch the performance on a projection screen . At the end of the performance the band from the “real world” will put on their VR headsets and enter the TRL to engage with the VR guests.  Select Audience members familiar with navigating the VR space will bring their headsets so they can enter the TRL as well.  All activity in VR at this point will be streamed to the Painted Bride audience; they will be able to watch what is happening in VR on the Painted Bride movie screen. This event will intrigue not only music fans but also anyone interested in exploring the Virtual Reality environment.
