AGPS Institute: Receiving In Group

The Austin Group Psychotherapy Society is an interdisciplinary organization of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and counselors who share a mutual commitment to continuing professional development and to excellence in the practice of group psychotherapy.Over the past decade, the Austin Group Psychotherapy Society (AGPS) has gained national recognition for the quality of our training opportunities and the warmth and enthusiasm of our members.AGPS trainings and social events are designed to mentor new professionals and students, expand the knowledge and clinical skills of all members, and enrich and rejuvenate established practitioners.

Our foundational security can come from a healthy relationship with oneself, yet we often need others to build this positive internal relationship.  Unfortunately, our defenses and expectations from childhood can prevent us from fully utilizing each other or allowing our self-perception to evolve based on healthy relationships in the present. Learning to receive from others is not only an important developmental task but also key to getting the most out of group. We will focus on discomfort around receiving and the related topics that receiving brings up, such as intimacy and vulnerability.

About the Presenter:
Charlotte Howard, Ph.D., is a certified group psychotherapist and co-owns Deep Eddy Psychotherapy, a center for therapy and training with a strong emphasis on group psychotherapy. She has led 5 groups a week for the past 11 years from an object-relations perspective, but has recently cut back to just one group which focuses on high-functioning professionals, mostly therapists. She recently created YourselfTruly.com to help women develop more positive relationships with themselves and is the author of Awaken to Love, which guides couples from a heart-centered perspective.

Limit: 20 slots available
Levels of Experience: This Institute is open to all members of AGPS regardless of group experience.  
CEUs: 7 Continuing Education credits offered for Psychologists, Social Workers, LPCs, and LMFTs.
Schedule: Saturday: 9:00am-5pm
