<p>A significant work of European Romanticism written by Adam Mickiewicz. This interpretation is a project of the independent Belarusian theater group Kupalaūcy and the Polish director Pavel Pazini.</p><p>During this showing, we would also like to commemorate the Night of Executed Poets - Stalin-era mass executions of intellectuals.</p><h2>About Kupalaŭcy:</h2><p>Kupalaŭcy is a free theater group from Belarus, which was founded by former artists of the Janka Kupala National Theater. On August 26, 2020, they resigned as a sign of solidarity with the Belarusian people, who came out for peaceful protests against violence and lawlessness in the country. Kupalaucy cannot play on the Belarusian stages. The group is blacklisted by the government and banned from performing.</p><h2>About &#x27;The Night of Executed Poets&#x27;:</h2><p>On the night of 29-30 October 1937, over 100 Belarusian intellectuals - writers, poets, scholars, and state figures - were executed in the Minsk prisons. Hundreds of them were buried in Kurapaty - a wooded area on the outskirts of Minsk, Belarus. This was part of The Great Purge or the Great Terror, also known as the Year of &#x27;37, - the Soviet General Secretary Joseph Stalin&#x27;s campaign to solidify his power over the party and the state. It occurred from August 1936 to March 1938 and the estimated total number of executions varies from 700 thousands to 1.2 millions.  </p><h2>About Adam Mickiewicz:</h2><p>Adam Mickiewicz was a Polish poet, dramatist, essayist, publicist, translator, and political activist. He was born either in Navahrudak or Zavosse, both in today&#x27;s Belarus. Throughout his life, he called his fatherland the place he was born. </p><p></p>
