Creativity in the Courtyard: "Asafo Flags" Children’s Program

The Fowler Museum at UCLA explores global arts and cultures with an emphasis on Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas—past and present. The Fowler enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples, cultures, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions, publications, and public programs, informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. Also featured is the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics, culture and social action. The Fowler provides exciting, informative and thought-provoking exhibitions and events for the UCLA community and the people of greater Los Angeles and beyond.

The Fowler Museum at UCLA

Design your own flag inspired by <a href="https://fowler.ucla.edu/exhibitions/asafo-flags/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Art, Honor, and Ridicule: Fante Asafo Flags from Southern Ghana</a>. Colorful and conceptually layered, asafo flags are the insignia of the historical and still thriving military companies of Fante states in southern Ghana. Adorned with vivid appliqué images that convey narratives of pride, asafo flags record past events and visualize proverbial wisdom. Lemonade and cookies will be served in the courtyard.Creativity in the Courtyard: Creativity in the Courtyard is a series of art making events inspired by our exhibitions. Open to all ages! Parking available in UCLA Lot 4, 198 Westwood Plaza, directly off Sunset Blvd; $3/hr or max $14/day. Rideshare drop-off at 305 Royce Dr.
