This concert features two Sonatas in which the violin and piano converse about many subjects and a ballet transcription in which both instruments give lively musical inspiration for storied dancing. With beautiful and intelligent interpretations, alongside intriguing programming, the versatile recitalist, chamber musician and soloist Claudia Schaer meets with accolades from audiences and musicians alike. Her recent recording of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin is hailed for its "elegant, light touch and lucid timber ... a wonderful performance" (Japan Bach Review) and unique "small softness at the beginning of the bowstroke" (American Record Guide). Dr. Schaer has toured Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark, giving many solo violin concerts, which included all six Bach Sonatas and Partitas, the Bartók Solo Sonata, and Boulez's Anthèmes. She gave her Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Debut (which included collaboration with the Echo-prizewinning David Orlowsky Trio). Other recent highlights included performances at the Banff Cetnre for the Arts, at Columbia University, and at Glencairn Cathedral in Pennsylvania, which featured a programme of violin and harp. Claudia Schaer is currently a soloist and concertmaster of New York's North/South Consonance Ensemble, with which she premièred the Lifchitz Violin Concerto, among many other works. She completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University in 2011, mentoring with Phillip Setzer, Ani Kavafian, and Pamela Frank, and writing about Varèse, Boulez, and the intersection of mathematics, philosophy, and music.

Pianist Olga Gurevich's career spans the disciplines of concert artist, chamber musician, accompanist, and pedagogue. Her performances have been broadcast by National Television in Azerbaijan, RAI Tre in Italy, and her concert appearances include venues such as Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Symphony Space, the 92nd Street Y, Scuola Civica in Cagliari (Italy), Smirna Opera Theatre in Delaware, Westport Concert Series in Connecticut, and many others. Ms. Gurevich is a winner of international competitions both in solo and piano four-hands divisions; these include the XIII Piano International competition in Salerno, and the Ragusa Ibla Foundation International Piano competition in Ragusa, both in Italy. As a collaborator, she performs with numerous chamber ensembles, and since 2015 is pianist-in-residence with the Silver Bay String Quartet, which includes summer appearances at the Silver Bay Festival and at the Marcella Sembrich Museum concert series. Olga Gurevich studied in Moscow, Russia, finishing post-graduate studies at the Maimonides State Academy and earning her Master's Degree at the Gnesin Academy, in Piano Performance, Piano Accompanying and Piano Pedagogy. As a pedagogue, she is a Steinway Hall teacher and a faculty member at the Bloomingdale School of Music in NYC, as well as leading an extensive private piano studio.
