Growing Local in St. Johns County - Farm Tours

Prissy is the commercial agriculture extension agent for St. Johns County. Her programs focus on plant diagnostics, pesticide education, alternative crop trials and youth education in regards to row crops.

Our half-day farm tour will include a 55-passenger bus ride throughout the county to tour our local agriculture.

St. Johns County Ag Center

S﻿tarting at 9am in St. Augustine at the St. Johns Ag Center, we will commute west to visit an organic farm that also produces hundreds of acres of snap beans in time for Thanksgiving! Next, we will be heading south to Molasses Junction to explore feed grains and locally sourced meats at our local Feed Mill. The tour continues with cut flowers, honey and leafy greens in Elkton, along with an abundance of fresh vegetables produced right here in St. Johns County, with the farmers present to answer your questions. We&#x27;ll return to the Ag Center by 12:30pm, where you can continue to shop at the Master Gardener&#x27;s plant sale, and purchase pumpkins from our 4-H club! Please join us in exploring the local food systems of St. Johns County!The tour fee includes the bus ride, bottled water and some UF/IFAS gear! Bring your shopping totes, cash and be prepared to learn about what your local farmers are producing in the area, and where to buy it! All of the farms participating have local markets within the county so you can continue to support local agriculture even after your bus tour!Participants must be riding the bus; no personal vehicles will be allowed on these private properties. In the event of extreme weather or the fact that this is Florida hurricane season, tours may be canceled, but you will receive a refund or a reschedule date, depending on farmer availability.
