The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library invites you to join 2022 Indiana Youth Poet Laureate, Charlotte Yeung, in a workshop for poets of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Whether we are drawn to the uncanny or the practical, the satirical or the fantastical, sci-fi or horror, poetry is an interesting way to explore our feelings and experiences. This workshop offers participants the opportunity to connect how they understand their lives with their literary voice. The workshop will include: writing ekphrasis or found poems in response to an exploration of KVML, discussions on how to write about climate change, feedback on poems, and tips to finalize and perform poems. Attendees are encouraged to stay and participate in KVML’s Youth Writing Program salon in the afternoon.The Indiana Youth Poet Laureate program is a program of VOICES (<a href="https://voicescorp.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">voicescorp.org</a>), and an affiliate of the National Youth Poet Laureate program. All Hoosiers ages 13-19 are eligible to apply to become the 2023 Indiana Youth Poet Laureate by submitting their application to <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdwFjE7ZsWe3rPiUyIrt2tjmfxf9Qz9rI1w39UYSUdP2-HLqg/viewform" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">this link</a> by November 1st, 2022. Email the Director of the Indiana Youth Poet Laureate program, Lauren Marie Hall Riggins, at LHall@VOICEScorp.org with any questions.Charlotte Yeung is a bestselling author, former English tutor for Afghan refugees, and 2022 Indy Youth Poet Laureate. Her children&#x27;s book, Isabelle and the Magic Bird, was an Amazon Best Seller and #1 New Release. She is organizing a poetry workshop series with women in Afghanistan in collaboration with Pax Populi and Purdue Honors College. A former American Battlefield Trust National Team Leader and YES Fellow, she lobbied her representatives for battlefield preservation and for mental health in high schools (and spoke with the Biden-Harris Transition Team on the latter). She is the author of Verge, a sci-fi novel, and Coloring Climate Justice, a coloring book. Her award-winning art and writing is published on multiple platforms including The New York Times. She is a Sophomore at Purdue University majoring in Political Science and can be found @cmyeungg.
