Helena Soholm is a transpersonal psychologist and a Korean shaman based in the Pacific Northwest. Helena’s research interests are in the areas of contemporary forms of shamanism, cultural identity, spirituality, and the arts. Helena received her PhD in clinical psychology in 2018. She also holds master’s degrees in Theological Studies from Harvard University and Existential-Phenomenological Psychology from Seattle University. Inuit Shaman, Aviaja Rakel Sanimuinaq Kristiansen, shares her story of decolonization

This Fall, I will host two special talks with indigenous women from Greenland and Norway. First interview is with an Inuit shaman (Angakoq) from Nuuk, Greenland. I met Aviaja Rakel Sanimuinaq Kristiansen during my recent trip to Nuuk. She comes from a long matriarchal line of healers and will share her story of Decolonization. We are extremely lucky to be in sacred space with this beautiful person. Coming from a lineage means that we spoke openly about seeing/hearing/feeling spirits during my whole upbringing, but we were also taught to keep silent about it. During my shamanic deepening from 2013 till now, I have, as I healed more and more, also opened more and more about my family’s teachings and how I work as a shamanic practitioner. I do that because my people believe that their shamanic culture is dead, I am here to teach how to revive it.I had my shamanic initiation during summer of 2019 and this spring, I finally held the ceremony to go fully into the work with the ancient spirits that I have inherited and involved more with humans.
