Please join us for a free screening of Section 298, a new documentary film on the persecution of Ahmaddiya community of Rabwah, Pakistan, followed by a panel discussion featuring community members, experts on minority rights and co-director James Joel Dann. The filmSection 298 of Pakistan’s Penal Code forbids members of the Ahmadi religious movement from calling themselves Muslims. Though they identify as Muslims, and in many ways their beliefs conform to Islam, differences in their religious practice mean that they are considered heretical and blasphemous. This has led to decades of systematic persecution at the hands of the Pakistani government and horrific violence by mobs and armed extremists. Section 298 takes us to Pakistan’s only Ahmadi-majority city, Rabwah. Filmed in secret, the documentary reveals the daily reality of discrimination and violence suffered by Ahmadis, told through the eyes of three anonymous Ahmadi women as they fight to keep their families, community and traditions alive. Directed and produced by James Joel Dann and Mahshad Afshar.
