Event Description: As group leaders we are constantly making decisions in the moment on whether to speak or stay silent. But how do we make these decisions and what are the criteria? When we do decide to intervene we want to make a skillful therapeutic response; one that might be explicit or implicit, verbal or non-verbal. In this workshop, we will discuss the developmental arc of early psychological life as understood by affect regulation theory and several complementary psychoanalytic theories. Emphasis will be placed on keeping an open clinical body and mind while using physiological, emotional, sensory, and cognitive information so that we can make helpful therapeutic decisions from a grounded and informed theoretical base.
Workshop Objectives: In this workshop participants will...

Identify primary psycho-developmental stations of early life as understood by affect regulation theory and varying complementary psychoanalytic theories.

Learn the maturational needs of these developmental periods and how group leaders can use themselves and the group to address them.

Examine how a group leader can use their full range of experiences, including physiological, emotional, sensory, and cognitive to understand where a group and its members may be functioning developmentally at a given moment.

Identify and develop techniques for group intervention at different developmental stations of early life

About the Presenters:
Jordan Price, LCSW, CGP is a psychotherapist with a private practice in Austin, Texas. He specializes in group, individual, and couples therapy. He is a graduate of the Center for Group Studies in New York City and actively engages in training and growth. Jordan is a published writer and enjoys presenting. He spent over four years working in psychiatric hospitals addressing trauma, addiction, and severe psychological conditions. Jordan leads an ongoing training group for clinicians interested in knowing more about themselves as people and practitioners. He continues to train with an emphasis on the coupling of affect regulation and psychoanalytic approaches.
Angelo A. Ciliberti, LPC, LAC, CGP is a psychotherapist in private practice in Boulder, CO specializing in individual, group, and family therapy. Additionally, he is the Vice President of the Four Corners Group Psychotherapy Society and the host of the "Group Dynamics Dispatch" Podcast. Since graduating from Naropa University (2007), Angelo has received advanced trainings in Interpersonal Neurobiology with Daniel Siegel’s Mindsight Institute as well as in Modern Psychoanalysis and Modern Group Analysis with the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies and the Center For Group Studies in New York City. Engaging this breadth of training and experience, Angelo uses dynamic thinking and affect regulation research to inform the relational approach he takes in his clinical work. He is a frequent presenter at conferences around the country, including the FCGPS and AGPA Annual Conferences.
