AGPS Institute: Tuning In to the Language of the Body in Group Therapy

The Austin Group Psychotherapy Society is an interdisciplinary organization of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and counselors who share a mutual commitment to continuing professional development and to excellence in the practice of group psychotherapy.Over the past decade, the Austin Group Psychotherapy Society (AGPS) has gained national recognition for the quality of our training opportunities and the warmth and enthusiasm of our members.AGPS trainings and social events are designed to mentor new professionals and students, expand the knowledge and clinical skills of all members, and enrich and rejuvenate established practitioners.

Bringing awareness of the body more consciously into our therapy work will naturally enhance our experience and create deeper change. In this Institute we will use verbal process, somatic awareness and didactic learning to explore how we can integrate the rich nuances of the body into our therapeutic group work.

About the Presenter:
Barbara E. Davis, LCSW, CGP is in private practice in Austin, Texas. She led her first therapy group in 1969, as a budding therapist on the staff of the new community mental health center, MH-MR. She has led a variety of groups since then, including structured, time limited groups, gestalt style groups, long term process groups, some with a body orientation, and groups for people dealing with serious physical illnesses. Past group influences have been John Gladfelter, Earl Koile, and Yvonne Agazarian. She was president of AGPS in our early years. Barbara is on the faculty of the International Society for Bioenergetic Analysis and has taught in the area of somatic psychotherapy in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Brazil. She has had an ongoing interest in integrating psychoanalytic thought with a body orientation and more recently has been trained in Somatic Experiencing, Emotionally Focused Therapy, a Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy, and participates in Modern Psychoanalytic Group Therapy supervision. 
Cost: $150 per person
Limit: 10 slots available
Levels of Experience: This Institute is open to members of AGPS who are students, new professionals, and intermediate-level group practitioners.  
CEUs: 9 Continuing Education credits offered for Psychologists, Social Workers, LPCs, and LMFTs.
Schedule: Saturday: 9:00am-5pm Sunday:   9:00am-12:15pm
