Join Preservation Maryland and our program The Campaign for Historic Trades for our Cemetery Preservation Workshop in Worcester County. We will learn basic preservation techniques to care for cemetery monuments, including cleaning the site, maintaining landscaping and cleaning gravestones. Please note that this workshop will require participants to stand or crouch while completing the preservation work in outside weather - come prepared!10:00 am– 12:00 pm Session 1: Introduction to Cemetery Preservation 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm BREAK (bring your own snacks and water, please)12:30 pm – 2:00 pm Session 2: Guided Practice and Q &amp; A Participants are welcome to park on in the municipal lot across from the church and cemetery or find near-by street parking. Bathrooms will be available on site. In case of inclement weather, this workshop will have to be rescheduled. This workshop will be rescheduled if there is a 60%+ chance of heavy rain or thunderstorms, and/or wind gusts over 20mph forecasted 24 hours before the time of the workshop. If these conditions are met, registered participants will receive an email about rescheduling 24 hours in advance of the workshop. Health and Safety Though no materials used in the cemetery preservation portion of the workshop are toxic or harmful to participants, we do suggest wearing protective eye gear and a mask. For participants with mobility concerns, we suggest bringing a folding chair or gardening bench to sit on while cleaning grave markers. Due to ongoing risks associated with Covid-19, we ask that if participants feel unwell they do not attend the workshop and invite them to join us at a future workshop. This program was made possible by a grant from the Rural Maryland Council. Additional support was provided by last fall’s Save a Grave fundraising campaign and Atlas Preservation. This workshop is hosted by The Campaign for Historic Trades, powered by Preservation Maryland.
