TQH 2022/23 Program Year

Check out all of the events in Telling Queer History's 2022/23 program year! We kicked off in October with  death, grief, remembering, and end of life preparation. Join us in December, February, April and June for our upcoming gatherings!

<p>Join us for community-building, storytelling, and singing for our first event of our 2022-2023 program year: on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2-4 p.m. we will hear stories from LGBTQ+ people on <strong>death, grief, and remembering</strong>.  This event will be IN-PERSON  at the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association(outside, weather permitting) and live-streamed to our Facebook page. </p><p>A natural part of the cycle of life, death, loss and endings are powerful moments of transformation. You don’t have to grieve or remember alone. The collective stories we shape around death, loss, and remembering offer us support, relief and connection. Come be a part of TQH’s community-supported container holding our collective grief.</p><p>After the featured storytellers share (with ASL interpretations), we will break up into small groups or self guided activities and reflection. Activities may include singing, labyrinth, art making, conversation, or community alter making.  Bring items to add to the alter that you will take home at the end of the event. </p><p><em><strong>Substance free, family friendly, ASL interpreted event. Tickets are sliding scale/ pay-what-you-can </strong></em><strong>($0-$35).</strong> <em><strong>The livestream will be recorded.</strong></em></p><p><strong>Accessibility information:</strong> The Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association porch, where storytelling will happen, is ADA accessible. We will be amplifying the storytellers through use of microphones and speakers. There will be traffic noise outside around our event. We are providing chairs, and there are stable concrete surfaces available. There will be invitations for participants to move their bodies throughout this event (please reach out to us for more information). There is one single-stall bathroom inside of the building that is ADA compliant (participants will need to navigate hallways to access the bathroom).  </p><p><em>Food and non-alcoholic refreshments will be available outside.</em></p>

<h2>Zsuzsi Borzalski, Storyteller</h2><p>Zsuzsi Borzalski is a queer end-of-life doula located in the Twin Cities. They trained through INEDLA and are currently a volunteer at a local hospice. Outside of this, they are also a show producer of a monthly drag king show: Dragged Out; and the fur dad to three dogs: Scruffins, Tilde, and Luna.</p><p></p><p></p>

<h2>Dallas Rising, Storyteller</h2><p>Dallas Rising is a somatic grief-worker and leads group embodied healing events including Yoga Nidra, Nature Immersions, Restorative Yoga, and Moving, Breathing, and Writing Through Grief cohorts. She also teaches a free weekly identity-and-body-affirming yoga class sponsored through Rainbow Health and is currently enrolled in an animal chaplaincy program.  </p><p></p>

<h2>Lee H. Jordan, Storyteller</h2><p>Lee Henry Jordan is an accomplished filmmaker who lives in the Twin Cities. He began his career as an Extra’s Casting Representative for Walden Entertainment where he coordinated and directed the extras prior to filming on set for both Independent and Commercial Productions. He began A Look Over Jordan &amp; Company in 2004, where he served as a fashion consultant, created and taught fashion and image seminars, worked in commercial and independent filmmaking as an actor, model, casting director and filmmaker.</p><p>Transitioning into exploring his personal film voice led him to create his first work, “We Turn The Page,” a project originally created for the Minneapolis Public Library Filmmaking Competition “Quiet On The Set”. That film essentially became the springboard towards defining his prowess as a Writer/Producer/Director. The film was screened at the Twin Cities Black Film Festival in 2011 and the 2011″Quiet On the Set” competition at the historic Uptown Theater. The film touches on the struggle for African Americans to gain access to the public library system during the Civil Rights era.</p><h2></h2>

<h2>Bas, Storyteller</h2><p>Bas is an activist who has been involved in movements in his home countries of Lebanon and Venezuela. In 2020, Bas was present in the devastating Beirut Explosion that decimated his city. He hopes to shed light on the loss that his city and country experienced and how we can help.</p>

<h2>Teri Kwant, Storyteller</h2><p>I am a very humanity-centered, holistic experience designer and public artist. I base my work on the premise that intentionally designed experiences allow us to create authentic connections and relationships with our primary audiences, which in turn has the potential to create healing – for all. It all starts with listening, and centering the voices of our audiences, especially those at the margins.</p><p>My purpose in designing experiences is to create objects, interactions and environments that not only engage the senses and the intellect, but the heart. I have worked in across a breadth of organizations and experiential focused learning environments for both children and adults. I have collaborated on trails and parks, nature centers and healthcare, at the scale of a single interaction to the experience of an overall urban environment. </p>
