"For All Souls" Gede Workshop with Jean Appolon

The Center for Arts at the Armory is a non-profit organization that resides in a historic Armory building, serving Somerville and the Greater Boston community and beyond as an accessible and inclusive venue for the arts, cultural and community events, exhibitions, markets, classes and more.The mission of Arts at the Armory is to provide an inclusive and accessible venue that creates opportunities for artists and cultural workers, brings diverse audiences together, enriches and transforms lives, and promotes the creative economy. In addition to the many events that CAA hosts that are produced independently of CAA, CAA has five signature programs: The Spotlight Series, The Performance Opportunity Program (POP), The Somerville Winter Farmers Market, The ROOTED Armory Cafe Event Series, and ROOTED Armory Cafe Visual Arts Exhibitions. CAA curates and produces performances in the Armory Performance Hall featuring local and touring artists as part of our Spotlight Series.

Jean Appolon will lead a free all-ages, family-friendly Gede dance workshop at 4:30pm on October 30 in the Armory Performance Hall.

Known as the Festival of the Ancestors, Fet Gede is celebrated in Haiti on November 1-2. People dress up, take to the streets, dance their communion with ancestors, and walk to cemeteries to feed the dead with gifts from their tables. J﻿oin choreographer and master teacher <a href="https://jeanappolonexpressions.org/jean-appolon" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jean Appolon</a>, and master drummer Wichemond Thelus for a dance workshop focused on Gede dance movement, rhythms and traditions. The workshop is designed for all movers and makers. Participants will be welcomed to create a space for shared remembrance; all are invited to bring a photograph or object to honor a loved one. Please dress in white, black or purple. T﻿his workshop was previously scheduled to be led by Zili Misik.
