About this event

Please join the League of Women Voters of Wilmette for a virtual discussion on the State of Reproductive Rights in Illinois, featuring Emily Werth of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Oren Jacobson of Men4Choice.

The League of Women Voters believes everyone should have access to affordable, quality healthcare, including birth control and the privacy to make reproductive choices. As an ally of reproductive rights organizations, we know that safe access to healthcare, including abortion, is essential to personal autonomy.

Many voters are unaware that Illinois laws protecting a woman's right to choose are vulnerable. As Dobbs made clear, our reproductive rights hinge on the makeup of our courts. Open seats in the 2nd and 3rd judicial districts will determine the balance of the Illinois Supreme Court, which interprets the Illinois Constitution. It is important to understand what is at stake, so we can educate voters and protect reproductive rights in our State.

Emily Werth is a staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois where her work focuses on women's and reproductive rights. Emily joined the ACLU in the Fall of 2014. She is a 2006 graduate of the University of Chicago and a 2011 graduate of Harvard Law School.

Oren Jacobson is co-founder and now serves as the co-executive director of Men4Choice, a non-partisan organization that works to advocate, educate and mobilize allies in the fight for reproductive freedom. He holds a master's degree in International Relations from the University of Chicago, a master's in Economic and Policy Analysis from DePaul University and an MBA from Regis University.

The discussion will be moderated by Gail Schnitzer Eisenberg, J.D. Northwestern University, 2012. Gail is a member of the Board of Directors of PersonalPAC and the League of Women Voters of Wilmette.
