About this event

Pickleball Tournament - Introductory Lessons - Food Trucks

Join us at Hughes Park on October 8th for fun and food as we support Florence Crittenton's mental health and wellness programs!

Hughes Park is home to 18 pickleball courts where teams will play a round robin style tournament. Top teams in each category will advance to bracket-style finals.

Categories are novice, intermediate, and advanced. Teams will register for the category they feel fits their skill level. If you aren't sure where you fall, see below:

You are a novice if you

  • got paddles for Christmas and tried them out for the first time this summer
  • know where to stand at the beginning of a serve
  • have an okay grasp of the rules but may need to defer to more knowledgeable players
  • can keep up a short volley
  • are looking for a lower-pressure experience

You are intermediate if you

  • play a few times a month with friends
  • can keep a volley going for an interesting amount of time and have won a few close matches
  • you can keep score independently and negotiate faults and missed points
  • you can direct your shots and dink confidently
  • know more than the newbies, but don't want to get pickled by a master on the court

You are advanced if you

  • made it this far into the list
  • keep it hot in the kitchen
  • can vary pressure and speed of shots to play the game strategically
  • rarely make unforced errors and can depend on your partner to interpret your moves to work together
  • have competed in a tournament before or play weekly as part of a league or club

Never played? Register for introductory lessons after the tournament to join us next time!

Florence Crittenton Services is also endorsed by businesses throughout Topeka. Our corporate partners have a few choices to support us at the tournament:

  • $100 Court Sponsorship: name one of our courts after your business! (18 available)
  • $150 Corporate Package: one doubles entry and logo on event signage (unlimited)

Balls will be provided, but bring your own paddles. Join us for food trucks and play some matches for mental health!
