Did you know that Harriet Tubman was disabled? Learn about her life through a disability justice lens in this virtual panel.

Harriet Tubman is well-known for her roles as a conductor on the Underground Railroad and a spy during the Civil War. However, one major element of her identity is rarely acknowledged: her disability, a result of traumatic brain injury that she experienced as an enslaved person.

As part of Rochester's ﻿Harriet Tubman Bi-centennial Celebration, this virtual panel will provide an overview of Tubman's life, with a particular emphasis on her status as a disabled Black woman and the role this identity plays in her legacy.
