Join NCA for a  volunteer cleanup event at Plank Road, followed by a unique workshop led by the Newtown Odyssey project.

In collaboration with the Newtown Odyssey project and Flux Factory we are hosting a multi part event at the Maspeth Ave Plank Road site in Queens.Part 1: Cleanup with NCA (4 to 6pm)Plank Road is a revitalized street end with known historic and ecological significance on Newtown Creek. With support from the NY-NJ Harbor &amp; Estuary Program, the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), and New York State Department of Conservation, the Newtown Creek Alliance has helped to transform Plank Road from an overgrown, muddy, and littered street-end to a clean and rejuvenated public shoreline over the past decade.We will be picking up trash along the shoreline and landscaping the existing vegetation and paths. Gloves, shovels, trash bags, and all other necessary materials will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring water, sun protection and wear outdoor clothing and closed-toed shoes. ---Part 2: <a href="https://www.newtownodyssey.com/portfolio-3/gaiaguide" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">GAIA/Guide Workshop</a> with Newtown Odyssey (6 to 8pm)This workshop will bring together two contrasting scenes from Spiotta’s libretto: The Tour Guides and The Creek Being. Featuring singer Charlotte Mundy, singer/horn player Kyra Sims, percussionist Josh Perry and a performance by Melissa Brown.The Newtown Odyssey is a floating opera premiering on Newtown Creek in 2023. This workshop will introduce some of our performers, parts of the libretto and score, and new experiments with floating instruments. Newtown Odyssey is a collaboration between musician Kurt Rohde, writer Dana Spiotta, and artist Marie Lorenz.---Part 3: Afterparty with Flux Factory (8pm)As part of their ongoing <a href="https://www.fluxfactory.org/?s=creekworthy" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Creekworthy</a> program!
