Sweetwater Organic Community Farm was established in 1995 as a nonprofit community-supported urban organic farm and environmental education center in Tampa, Florida. We are located on 6 acres of suburban property along the Sweetwater Creek in Tampa’s Town ‘n’ Country neighborhood, in Hillsborough County, Florida.We operate aCommunity Supported Agriculture (CSA) Membership program,Sweetwater Sunday Farmers’ Market and Music Seriesopen to the public, educationalfield trip programsfor visiting groups, farm tours, workshops, outdoor movies, seasonal events,volunteer opportunitiesand more!Through our hands-on programs, visitors of all agesdiscover the wonders of nature, explore ecological interconnections, practice appropriate land stewardship and master sustainable agriculture techniques.  Our farm provides the freshest possible organic vegetables and herbs for hundreds of Tampa Bay residents each year.At Sweetwater, community members come together to grow and enjoy fresh organic food, acquire sustainable living skills, support local agriculture, enjoy nature, make new friends and be a part of the community.

Learn all the sweet knowledge behind keeping your own successful backyard bee colony, taught by beekeeping expert Josh Harris.

Beekeeping is one of the most fruitful and rewarding hobbies you can have, and just about anyone with a yard can do it! Get to know how you can start your own backyard beehive with Queen &amp; Colony Bee Co. owner and expert Josh Harris. He’ll share all the sweet knowledge behind successful at-home beekeeping, and you’ll walk away knowing the ins and outs of starting your colony. Soon you can start to harvest your own delicious yard-to-table honey, see your garden flourish with the help of your buzzy pollinators, and enjoy the unique pleasure of maintaining your own family of bees.This workshop will dive into:<ul><li>Basic understanding of honeybees</li><li>The hive</li><li>Tools and equipment</li><li>Setting up a bee yard</li><li>Getting bees</li><li>Inspecting a colony</li><li>Swarm control</li><li>Pests and diseases</li><li>Products of the hive</li></ul>If you’re a first time beekeeper, it’s so important to learn bee biology and the basics of beekeeping from an expert before you start your colony - you and your bees will be happier for it! Don’t miss your chance to learn from a master and reap the most out of your new beekeeping hobby. Please note: This workshop will be taking place at the Big House at Sweetwater Farm, but you can park at 5521 Hanley Road, Tampa FL 33634 and cross the bridge over the creek to the farm.
