Join us in exploring the studios of our artists in residence for Materia/Material,  a six-week residency on Governors Island

Join us for the National Academy of Design&#x27;s summer residency open studio day! Guests can meet the artists in residence, explore their studio spaces, and enjoy light refreshments at our Governors Island summer house. Artists in residence include: Hugo Bastidas NA, Jim Osman NA, Ed Smith NA, Elizabeth Demaray, Dianne Smith, and Michael Kelly Williams. Guests can also enjoy a collagraph workshop given by artist Michael Kelly Williams from 12 - 2pm that same day. If you would like to attend the workshop, there is a separate RSVP form. NOTE: The workshop is now fully reserved but click <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/national-academy-at-governors-island-reduce-reuse-collage-tickets-395486981207" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a> to join the waitlist. -Materia/Material is a residency and exhibitions program, hosted by the National Academy of Design on Governors Island during the summer of 2022 in collaboration with Materials for the Arts. Over the span of six weeks, six artists – a group of National Academicians and alumni of Materials for the Arts’ artistic programs – will work both independently and collaboratively as residents of a historic house on the Island’s Nolan Park. Residents will have access to Materials for the Arts’ 35,000-square-foot creative reuse center, supporting the development of projects that engage both art and architectural practices concerned with sustainability, ecology, and innovative approaches to reuse. The group of six participating artists and architects includes Hugo Bastidas NA in collaboration with Elizabeth Demaray, Jim Osman NA, Dianne Smith, Ed Smith NA, and Michael Kelly Williams.The exhibition that follows, opening in mid-September in the same space, will showcase projects developed during the residency alongside complementary works by artists and architects from outside the group of residents.
