About This Trip

After hiking nearly 6 miles to the hut on day one, kick off your hiking boots and unwind with dinner courtesy of Slope Room, before gazing at the stars from the deck overlooking the Colorado Plateau.

The next morning, enjoy breakfast and coffee before heading out on a guided day-hike to New York Mountain - we'll lunch along the way! There will be plenty of downtime to explore or rest with a book on the deck. Dinner will again be from Slope Room.

On the final morning, after more caffeine and calories at the breakfast table, you'll make the journey back to the trailhead, to mark the completion of your trek.

About the Huts

The Polar Star Inn is a privately owned hut managed by the 10th Mountain Division. Built in 1987, it is located just below timberline at 11,040' on the west side of New York Mountain, in central Colorado. Polar Star has a big deck that looks west over the Colorado Plateau: a sunset watcher's paradise. Fun fact: there's a sauna onsite!

Right next door, you'll find the Seipel Hut, a privately owned, 6 person backcountry hut, booked by 10th Mountain. Formerly known as Carl’s Cabin, it was built in 1993, and provides a unique private hut experience. Located just below timberline at 11,040′ it offers access to excellent skiing and hiking on New York Mountain, and access to the rugged Holy Cross Wilderness. You'll also find a sauna onsite!
