    CFSA Foster Parent of the Year

    Once a year, CFSA selects a foster parent of the year to be recognized for their exemplary role in the foster care system. CFSA typically makes the selection sometime in March and announces it in May during National Foster Care Month. The criteria for the award is internal to CFSA.


    Foster Youth of the Year

    The Foster Youth of the Year is a youth aged 16-21 is a young leader who exemplifies model behavior and characteristics. A potential Foster Youth of the Year is someone who displays characteristics such as demonstrating stewardship, a vision for their future, and participation in extracurricular activities. The minimum criteria for this award include: academic performance or improvement, volunteering in their community, and recommendation from their social worker.


    Lifetime Advocate Achievement Award

    The Lifetime Advocate Achievement Award is provided to an individual or organization demonstrating exceptional life-long service to children and families in the District of Columbia. This person or organization has made strides in the child and family welfare system through advocacy and is a voice for those in need. The minimum criteria for this award is 10 years of service in the child and family welfare system.


    Advocate of the Year

    The Advocate of the Year is someone who has demonstrated leadership in the child and family welfare system within the last year or two. This person has become a voice for children and families and has engaged in advocacy to elevate the well-being of children and or families in the District of Columbia. The minimum criteria for this award is any one specific advocacy effort accomplished for the benefit of children or families.


    Model Parent of the Year

    The Model Parent of the Year is provided to a birth, kinship, foster, guardianship, or adoptive parent who demonstrates superior parenting skills and an understanding of child development. This parent has overcome challenges and provided exceptional care to a child in their care.


    Star Summit Participant

    The Star Summit Participant Award is provided to a young person who attended the Foster Youth Summit and demonstrated high participation and engagement. This Individual has also reflected on their participation and demonstrated high learning and impact.


    Partner of the Year

    The Partner of the Year award Is provided to a corporation that has contributed to the success and mission of FAPAC during the year. This partner has made a significant commitment to furthering the mission of the Foster and Adoptive Parent Advocacy Center and the well-being of children In foster care.

    The mission of the Foster and Adoptive Parent Advocacy Center (FAPAC) is to improve the quality of life, well-being, and dignity of children in the District of Columbia by strengthening, supporting and empowering foster, adoptive and kinship parents to serve as advocates for their children's needs and bridge-builders with birth parents; through working as an organizational agent of systemic change; and by partnering with other District agencies to provide innovative stabilization services to families at risk.
