FilmGate Miami

Animation is an incredibly useful tool for any filmmaker. Whether you’re interested in creating fully fleshed out worlds and characters, or simply more visually pleasing title cards, a familiarity with animation will help you make more polished, professional film content. That’s why FilmGate Interactive is offering a unique workshop Maya, the industry standard in animation, on Saturday, May 14th. Lead by professional animator Andy Robertson, this class will cover the basics of 3D modeling, texturing, and rigging. Students attending the class will design a character from the ground up, and then use motion capture software to bring it to life. Whether you’re just starting out in animation, or a seasoned veteran who wants to learn more about Maya, this class is perfect for any filmmaker who wants to learn to create more visually compelling content. About the Instructor:
Andy Robertson began his professional career on Star Wars' Phantom Menace, while studying film, video and animation at RISD. He later partnered with Home Grown Films, a French web design firm, where he rebranded Schrader International, Parvalux and the Wates Group. Robertson worked as a motion editor/3D animator on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Troy, King Arthur and several Sony Playstation Games. While obtaining his masters in film at the University of London, he helped launch Disney’s The Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Sin City.  Andy founded Blue Ocean Studios in partnership with Magna-Tech Electronic, the company focuses on 3D animation, branding and mobile app development. 
 
About Maya: Autodesk Maya, commonly shortened to Maya, is a 3D computer graphics software that runs on Windows, OS X and Linux, originally developed by Alias Systems Corporation (formerly Alias|Wavefront) and currently owned and developed by Autodesk, Inc. It is used to create interactive 3D applications, including video games, animated film, TV series, or visual effects.
