Experiments in Opera is an artist-led non-profit opera company that opens up the boundaries of opera by supporting and guiding an inclusive group of artists, musicians, composers, and librettists to expand their craft. Our company positions new operas in a context shaped by our artist leaders and their work.

Join us in disrupting ableism as we explore our understanding of Disability and the importance of accessibility.

Creating Access is a series of free online accessibility workshops geared towards creators that center Disability Justice principles and share frameworks for understanding and implementing access features in our projects and gatherings as a critical step towards creating radical inclusivity in our communities.Disability Justice &amp; Accessibility Basics is a gentle entry point into the visionary principles and practices of the Disability Justice movement. Initially conceived by queer, disabled women of color, Patty Berne, Mia Mingus, and Stacey Milbern, Disability Justice recognizes the intersecting legacies of white supremacy, colonial capitalism, gendered oppression and ableism in understanding how people&#x27;s bodies and minds are labeled ‘deviant’, ‘unproductive’, ‘disposable’ and/or ‘invalid’.In this workshop, we will share and discuss:<ul><li>Disability awareness and the importance of accessibility</li><li>#AccessIsLove, created &amp; led by Sandy Ho, Mia Mingus, and Alice Wong</li><li>Places to Start, offered by the Disability Intersectionality Summit</li><li>10 principles of Disability Justice by Sins Invalid</li></ul>Access Features for this online workshop include ASL interpretation, CART captioning in English, and access doulas to care for access needs as they may arise.
