<a href="https://unionhalldenver.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Union Hall</a> is seeking proposals for Rough Gems, our annual collaborative curatorial project, taking place at the gallery from Thursday, January 19th - Saturday, April 22nd, 2023.This will be the second of two informational events to allow prospective applicants to learn more about the program and meet previous Rough Gems curators. The Happy Hour at Union Hall is your chance to get direct information and feedback from former Rough Gems curators. Rough Gems is an annual open call and collaborative curatorial project at Union Hall.Surveying the landscape of opportunities available for creatives in Denver, Union Hall recognized that there are relatively few opportunities for emerging curators to submit work for consideration, receive portfolio reviews, and be awarded funds, when compared to similar opportunities for artists. Rough Gems was developed as a response to this gap; supporting artists, art historians, musicians, writers, students, producers and other creatives in developing their curatorial skills, and in turn supporting artists and diversifying the voices responsible for exhibition-making.Showcasing the work of three Denver-based curators/curatorial teams in a rotating pop-up exhibition format, Rough Gems grants access to Union Hall’s resources: paying equitable artist and curatorial stipends (aligned with <a href="https://wageforwork.com/home#top" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">W.A.G.E.</a> guidelines), and providing curatorial mentorship, planning support, full use of Union Hall’s facilities, assistance during installation and deinstallation, marketing support, press outreach and staffing. Union Hall accepts proposals that include a wide range of creative expressions, and exhibitions outside of a traditional format, such as music or poetry showcases, performance or film series, and immersive installations, and priority is given to proposals that align with Union Hall’s DEI goals for exhibitions, serving to represent Denver’s diverse and growing arts and culture community. With Rough Gems, Union Hall hopes to impact the lives of emerging artists and curators with a platform for exhibition that is inclusive, supportive, and committed to the artists we serve by paying them for exhibitions and performances.

There are two entrances to the building equipped with power assist doors and all public areas are wheelchair accessible. Street parking is available along Wewatta Street. Paid public parking is located in the building garage on the corner of Wewatta &amp; 18th Street with wheelchair accessible spaces. Union Hall is located directly next to the Union Station train tracks, providing access to a variety of public transportation options including the bus, light rail, train, and ride shares.This event will take place inside the gallery during an installation period in preparation for our next exhibition. There will be no artwork on display during this event. Chairs will be available for sitting. Furniture will not limit physical movement or ADA accessibility.
