Bad, Rad, and Boho Women of the Village Walking Tour

An annual festival celebrating arts and activism across Greenwich Village and the East Village. In 2024 the festival will run from Sept 14 through Sept 28. The program will feature folk, rock, jazz, and classical and new music, as well as literature, tours, talks, comedy, food and more. Hear about mavericks such as Emma Goldman, Isadora Duncan, Dorothy Day, Mabel Dodge, Louise Bryant, Eleanor Roosevelt, Lorraine Hansberry, Nina Simone, Jane Jacobs, and Angela Davis and the many other rebellious spirits who left their mark on Greenwich Village – and on the world.Unruly women readily found a berth in the Bohemian Village, allowing them to pioneer new politics, new lifestyles and new aesthetics. What factors in the large scale of the city and the small scale of the neighborhood made the Village so welcoming? What role did DIY educational, cultural and social networks play in knitting them together and making their ideas take fire? How did mavericks such as Emma Goldman, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, Elizabeth Irwin, Isadora Duncan, Yvonne Rainer, Henrietta Rodman, Dorothy Day, Mabel Dodge, Louise Bryant, and later Eleanor Roosevelt, Lorraine Hansberry, Nina Simone, Yvonne Rainer, Lucinda Childs, Jane Jacobs and Angela Davis, and so many others find each other and found communities of dissent?
