LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes centers the history of Mexican and Mexican Americans in Los Angeles, and collects, preserves, and shares the stories, accomplishments, and experiences of Latinx people and Latino culture.Located near the site where Los Angeles was founded in 1781, LA Plaza's 2.2-acre campus includes two historic and newly renovated buildings (the Vickrey-Brunswig Building and Plaza House) surrounded by 30,000 square feet of public garden and LA Cocina de Gloria Molina, a teaching kitchen and event space, located in LA Plaza Village.LA Plaza is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Join us in honoring the pillar ingredient in Mexican Cuisine: Heirloom Maize. Cook with us four diverse life-stage themed maize dishes!

LA Plaza Cocina

LA Plaza Cocina is excited to introduce to you the world of white and purple heirloom corn; representing the stages of life (youth, adult, elder and spirit), this cooking class will activate ancestral and traditional taste memories. The menu and recipes to be explored include: <ul><li>Atole Blanco de Nixtamal</li><li>Three Sisters Salad</li><li>Santa Quesadilla de Huitlacoche</li><li>Corn Silk Tea</li></ul>Instructor: Claudia Serrato, PhD, Indigenous Culinary Anthropologist; Professor, Chef and Co-founder of Across Our Kitchen Tables--UPDATE: For the safety of all our attendees, LA Plaza Cocina asks that all attendees abide by the following guidelines of our dress code to make our space safe for you, our staff and guest chefs: <ul><li>Please wear closed-toe shoes</li><li>Please wear comfortable clothing </li><li>Please tie long hair back</li><li>Attendees must wear a mask throughout the duration of the program except for eating and/or drinking</li></ul>If you have any questions, please review the <a href="https://laplazacocina.org/culinary-programs/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Frequently Asked Question</a> section of our website below the Culinary Programs Calendar, or contact us by calling (323) 397 -8365 or email us at cocina@lapca.org. --NOTE: Attendees of LA Plaza Cocina's food programs must provide proof of vaccination to attend both the classes and demonstrations.
