The first gathering will feature drummer Jerome Gillespie and interdisciplinary artist and sound designer Chloe Alexandra Thompson, and interdisciplinary artist, director, choreographer, organizer, teaching artist, and a three time Bessie award winning performer Jasmine Hearn. *﻿**Note: masks are required to be worn. Thanks for understanding!4:30pm Jerome Gillespie, Jr.5:15pm Chloe Alexandra Thompson6:30pm Jasmine HearnABOUT THE ARTISTSJazz’s newest enigma <a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/2bXz8AqRd5vHnavHhXzigS" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jerome Gillespie, Jr.</a> is a multi-talented musician, drummer, composer, bandleader, and teacher who is at the fulcrum of an evolving jazz scene. Taught in Houston by Craig Green, Joel Fulgham, and Sebastian Whittaker, Jerome Gillespie, Jr. is a very different and uniquely wired musician who isn’t afraid to break the rules and push the boundaries of our perception with his deeply layered and well-crafted syncopated rhythms. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he later attended music conservatory schools The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and later transferred and graduated from the Manhattan School of Music. His drive, focus, and tenacity will lead him to become a relentless and emerging force in the independent circuit. <a href="https://www.chloealexandra.info/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Chloe Alexandra Thompson</a> is a Cree interdisciplinary artist and sound designer. Thompson approaches sound as a mode of connection—embracing the kinesthetic agency of sound to compose abstract feats of spatialized audio recording and synthesis. Her work engages tactics of material minimalism to create site-specific installations that sculpt droning, maximalist experiences out of space and sound.<a href="https://www.jasminehearn.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jasmine Hearn</a> was born and raised on occupied lands now known as Houston, TX. They are an internationally touring interdisciplinary artist, director, choreographer, organizer, doula, performer and a Rome Prize Fellow in Design with Athena Kokoronis at the American Academy in Rome. Jasmine has also been awarded three Bessie Awards for Outstanding Performance (2017) with Skeleton Architecture, Outstanding Performance (2021), and Outstanding Production (2021) with the cast and crew of The Motherboard Suite. Jasmine has creatively collaborated with artists, Solange Knowles, Alisha B. Wormsley, Vanessa German, Marjani Forté-Saunders, Maria Bauman, Lovie Olivia, Ayanah Moor, Staycee Pearl, Holly Bass, Li Harris, slowdanger, and companies, Urban Bush Women, David Dorfman Dance, and Helen Simoneau Danse, which have produced solo and collective dance choreography for performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York Live Arts, the Guggenheim Museum, the Getty Center, the 2019 Venice Biennale, the Ford Foundation, Danspace Project, BAAD!, Kelly Strayhorn Theater, and other internationally acclaimed art spaces such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Their embodied practice is rooted in a layering of dance, somatic, and vocal traditions greatly influenced by teachers and mentors, Claudette Nickens Johnson, Byronné J Hearn, Marjani Forté-Saunders, Marlies Yearby, Staycee Pearl, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, jhon r. stronks, Chanon Judson, Kendra Portier, Barbara Mahler, Pamela Pietro, Sherie van den Wijngaard, Joy KMT, Alisha B. Wormsley, Samita Sinha, and Li Harris. Their commitment to performance is an expansive practice that includes dance, embodied sound, collaboration, and memory-keeping. Jasmine gives gratitude to Spirit, their mothers, and all the mothering black people who have supported their dreaming dancing moving remembering body.
