Leaping Lizards MTB Bike Skills Camp - Gateway Green

Mountain biking requires riders to confront their fears, biases, and preconceived notions: we know what it feels like to be fearful, uncomfortable, and out of our element while on a ride. While we believe that everyone's barriers should be respected, we know that mutual support will help get us past those barriers. We must boost each other up and push ourselves to improve both on and off the bike. NWTA wants a world where everyone feels welcome, safe, and free in the outdoors. Refunds will be issued in full for registration fee refund requests received no less than seven (7) calendar days prior to the event start date and time. A partial refund of 50% will be issued for registration fee refund requests received after seven (7) days and up to twenty-four (24) hours before the start of the event. Mountain Bike Skills Camp (M-Th) for Intermediate level  8-12-year-olds

<p>Intermediate Level Mountain Bike Skills Camp August 22nd - 25th  9:00 am to 12:00 pm for Ages: 8-12</p><p><strong>Registration for this camp is for 4 days (Monday - Thursday). Please be ready to commit to having your rider attend each day.</strong></p><p>In partnership with Elaine B Bikes, NWTA is excited to offer mountain bike skills camps. Cost: $40 donation to NWTA (scholarships available email elaine.b@elainebbikes.com)</p><p><strong>Drop off &amp; Pick up location: Gateway Fred Meyer Parking Lot, Corner of NE 99th &amp; NE Pacific </strong></p><p> Event Location: Gateway Green </p><p>Rider Experience: Intermediate with at least 2 years of riding on dirt trails </p><p>These riders are already comfortable riding a bike on “Green” and may be riding parts of moderately technical “Blue” trails, and down features, 4-8 inches high. They can stand and coast confidently on even pedals for longer sections of trail, and they can shift gears and corner comfortably. They are interested in dropping features up to 12-14” high, learning to jump, manual and riding pump tracks or rolling terrain faster, without pedaling. They can ride 2-4 miles or more on a trail or bike path.</p><p>During this class: these riders will continue to improve their balance over varying and more technical terrain, brake and corner even quicker, with more exaggerated body movements, and they can shift gears before it’s too late. They’ll learn to climb, descend and ride both faster and more slowly with confidence. They’ll and have fun riding technical roll downs and drops 8-10” high – if they want to. The wheels may leave the ground in this class, after all, Leapin’ Lizards want to learn how to jump! </p><p>Bike: A Leapin’ Lizard’s bike has platform pedals, two hand brakes, a seat that can move up and down, and is in good working condition. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No coaster brakes, kickstands, baskets, or fenders. A Lizard’s helmet fits properly, is in good condition, and is less than 5 years old.</p><p>Required Gear: </p><p>-A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old* </p><p>-Water bottle and snacks</p><p>-Clothing appropriate for the weather</p><p>-Pack to carry layers, snacks, and water</p><p>Recommended Gear:</p><p>- Full-fingered gloves</p><p>-Knee and elbow protection</p><p>-Eye protection</p><p>*We have helmets to loan!</p><p>Participants should have their own water, wear layers appropriate for the weather, and have a backpack to take with them to the park.
