Meet the East Side Institute (virtually), a hub for a diverse and emergent community of social activists, thought leaders, and practitioners. Discover the performatory developmental approach of social therapeutics, an approach that helps you create a new culture of creativity, understanding and collective collaboration. Join ESI faculty member, Janet Wootten and ESI Media and Tech Producer Desire Wandan for an open ended and playful introduction to the East Side Institute, its practices, projects and collaborators around the world. Leader BiosJanet Wootten leads the study group for Social Therapeutic Group Study Program where participants build exuberant, conceptual and methodological stages for advancing our understanding of performance and human development. She has an M.Phil. (A.B.D.) in developmental psychology from Columbia University Teachers College, where she first met and studied with Lois Holzman and, later, as a newly-minted community organizer, with Fred Newman in the earliest days of the New York Institute for Social Therapy and Research. She is a senior vice president at a leading communications firm in New York City.Desire Wandan, the Institute's Media and Tech Producer, is a teaching artist, videographer and documentarian. Des was introduced to social therapeutics while a student at Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, where he performed as a leader of the “Let’s Talk About It” group led by Barbara Silverman. He currently serves as tech producer (Z-Jay) and volunteer coordinator for ESI programs, and as multimedia content producer of short videos, documentaries and the “All Power to the Developing” podcast series. Passionate about Hip-Hop culture, he is an avid dancer and teaching artist in communities across New York.
