What tech can help us make the shift to low carbon? How does that impact environmental justice?

Do you know where your electricity is coming from? A majority of people across the globe don&#x27;t. But we have a choice when it comes to virtually everything else we spend our money on(i.e. food, clothes, cars, etc) but not electricity/energy. After years of research and improvements in econometric (statistical + economic) methods of analysis, organizations like WattTime have been able to measure the carbon emissions that result from everyday actions that increase our energy use. Whether it&#x27;s flipping a light switch, doing a load of dishes, running your AC, or charging your EV, WattTime and other organizations have pioneered a way to help companies, individuals, and governments understand where there energy is coming from and how much carbon emissions that energy use causes in real-time. This data helps smart device companies like Google Nest give consumers the ability to use greener electricity by automatically adjusting when their thermostats use energy, informs where companies like Salesforce build new renewable energy projects, and also helps architects and building engineers implement design strategies that will maximize carbon reductions pre-build. He provides consulting and solutions support to sustainability and energy teams at Fortune 500 companies to help them double the efficacy of their renewable energy procurement and rapidly cut the carbon footprints of their EVs, Energy Storage, and Buildings through WattTime’s Automated Emissions Reduction (AER) technology. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley’s Environmental Economics and Policy program.EJ Speaker Seth Mullendore is president and executive director of Clean Energy Group (CEG), where he oversees the organization’s mission to advance energy justice and catalyze innovative energy strategies to address the climate crisis. He previously served as vice president and a project director for CEG, leading efforts to enable greater access to the benefits of solar PV and battery storage technologies for low-income communities and communities of color and working with community-based partners to phase out polluting power plants with clean alternatives. Seth is a contributing author to the 2022 book “Environmental Justice and Resiliency in an Age of Uncertainty,” which examines various current environmental issues including energy justice.
