The Vail Series Welcomes the World! After a couple of challenging years, we are thrilled to welcome the community back to Denison’s campus and bring the world on stage. The Vail Series was endowed in 1979 by a generous gift from the late Mary and Foster McGaw in honor of Jeanne Vail, class of 1946. Just as it was intended to do, the Series enriches the artistic experience of the entire Denison community. Programmed creatively with the mindful pursuit of learning across traditional academic boundaries, more than 100 individual Vail Series artists have found their way to Denison’s classrooms and stages, but that doesn’t include the dozens of ensembles or full symphony orchestras that have played here over the years.DENISON COMMUNITY TICKETSTickets and Season Passes are free for Denison students, faculty and staff. NOTE, when ordering season tickets, you will not receive tickets with this purchase. Tickets for each concert will be emailed to you two weeks prior to each concert. PUBLIC TICKETSWe share these experiences with our larger community by making a limited number of tickets available for public sale on a first come, first served basis for $15 each. No refunds or exchanges. A limited number of Season Tickets for all five Vail performances are available at a discounted rate of $60 until October 6. **PLEASE NOTE** When ordering season tickets, you will receive an email confirmation but you will not receive tickets with this purchase. Tickets for each concert will be emailed to you two weeks prior to each concert. All events subject to change. Audience members will be subject to Denison COVID guidelines in place at the time.

<h3>The Queen’s Cartoonists </h3>October 6, 7pm, Swasey ChapelAre there age restrictions to enjoy cartoons? Of course not! What better way to kick off our Vail Series season than to celebrate one of the earliest ways we all encountered music, in the world of animation. The world-class musicians of The Queen’s Cartoonists play classical and jazz music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation. Synchronized projections of the original films are feet away from the audience in Swasey Chapel. <h3>Fazıl Say, Piano and Jamal Aliyev, Cello</h3>October 27, 7pm, Swasey Chapel One of the greatest artists of our generation, Turkish pianist and composer, Fazıl Say, performs with rising star, Turkish cellist Jamal Aliyev, in a limited US tour ​that will dazzle you with their artistry in a night to remember.Fazıl ˆSay’s extraordinary talents as pianist have been astounding audiences and critics for more than twenty-five years and cellist Jamal Aliyev has been hailed as one of “the most brilliant young classical musicians playing today.” Bringing them both to Denison is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to catch two incredible artists, one whose artistry is well known, and one whose fame is skyrocketing with each concert season. <h3>Direct from Ukraine Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, Theodore Kuchar; Principal Conductor</h3>Feb 2, 7pm, Swasey ChapelDirect from Ukraine, the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, on an international tour that brings them to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as well as Lincoln Center in New York City, excitingly includes Swasey Chapel at Denison University. Established in 1902 and under the baton of Principal Conductor Theodore Kuchar, the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine will remind us of how small the world is now, and how music can bridge cultures and bring people together.<a href="https://vailserieslvivnationalphilharmonic.eventbrite.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tickets</a> for this individual concert go on sale January 3, 2023.

SCOTT</h3>March 2 and March 3, 7pm, Sharon Martin Hall, Eisner Center“Music and art have the power to change souls,” says six-time Grammy® winner and Emmy® nominated trumpeter Terence Blanchard, who brings these words to life with the E-Collective, fellow Grammy® winners Turtle Island Quartet, and visual artist Andrew F. Scott, as they celebrate the work of photojournalist and filmmaker Gordon Parks in a stunning incorporation and multimedia concert of music and art. This two-night engagement that fuses the arts will be performed in Sharon Martin Hall in the Michael D. <h3>Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour</h3>April 12, 7pm, Swasey ChapelWrapping up our Vail Series 2022-2023 season, we are proud to present from our friends out west, the Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour, with an all-star line-up featuring vocalists Dee Dee Bridgewater (who gave us a remarkable performance in 2018), and Kurt Elling, saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, pianist Christian Sands, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and drummer Clarence Penn. Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour presents the artistry, spirit, and fun of the Monterey Jazz Festival to audiences far and wide with musicians who embody the Monterey aesthetic by performing music, both historic and new, that reflects the values and legacy of the Monterey Jazz Festival over the last 65 years.<a href="https://vailseriesmontereyjazz.eventbrite.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tickets</a> for this individual concert go on sale January 3, 2023.
