"Ode to the Stars" - Stargazing on Waitt's Mount

Malden Reads is a community reading program that seeks to discover what could happen if all of Malden read the same book. Organized by community groups, city leaders, and residents, in collaboration with the Malden Public Library and Urban Media Arts (UMA), the program invites the community to read the same book and participate in a series of events related to the book’s themes. The goals of the program are to promote literacy, a love of reading, and an appreciation of city resources, but most of all, to build community in the city of Malden.

<a href="http://www.maldenreads.wordpress.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Malden Reads: One City, One Book</a>, in collaboration with Malden&#x27;s Ward 4 City Councillor Ryan O’Malley, presents the fifth annual “Sunset, Storytelling and Stargazing&quot; event. (This event was interrupted due to Covid in 2020 and 2021.)What to Expect:The community is invited to the top of <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Waitts+Mount+Park/@42.4337764,-71.0678057,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x89e37313f721eef3:0x496773f36ca72ed7!8m2!3d42.4337764!4d-71.065617" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Waitt’s Mount Park</a> in Malden to watch the sunset; hear poetry, music and storytelling; and gaze at the stars with the help of the <a href="http://nsaac.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club</a> (NSAAC), the <a href="https://www.atmob.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston</a> (ATMoB), and <a href="https://www.popscope.org/about-1" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">#popscope</a>.A storytime and activity for children and families will begin at 7:15 pm, as the sun starts to set. Poetry, music and stories for adults (but with consideration for all ages) will begin at 8:00pm. Performers include CD Collins, Maddie Lam and Alexandria Onuoha.Stargazing will begin after twilight, around 8:00 pm. Several telescopes will be set up for viewing, with the club astronomers serving as guides to the night sky.What to Bring:A snack (or picnic dinner), water bottle, bug spray, sturdy footwear, a blanket to sit on, and your sense of adventure! This is an alcohol and drug free event. Getting there and Parking:Parking at Waitt’s Mount Park is very limited and will be reserved for disability access. Walking or biking is encouraged.
