We are in this Together: Helping Couples Navigate Healthcare Systems and Cope with Complex Clinical Presentations - with Dr. Tai Mendenhall

Good couple’s therapy is more than straightforward efforts to improve communication skills, manage finances better, or reclaim a “spark” after years of childrearing. When devastating health diagnoses, complex mental illnesses, and/or addiction impact couples, therapists are well-positioned to offer support that extends beyond the walls of their private practices.Lorenz Clinic is excited to host Tai Mendenhall, Ph.D., LMFT, to discuss this topic during August&#x27;s Grand Rounds professional development event. In this presentation, baseline “levels” (primary, secondary, tertiary) and theoretically-conceptualized “worlds” (clinical, operational, financial) of healthcare will be described. This will be presented alongside the empirically-supported manners in which clinicians can help couples navigate their journey through these healthcare systems.Learning Objectives:<ul><li>Articulate the missions of different levels of health care.</li><li>Describe how the clinical, operational, and financial worlds of health care work collaboratively with – and sometimes against – each other.</li><li>Learn empirically-supported ways that clinicians can help couples navigate healthcare systems as they cope with complex and difficult clinical presentations.</li><li>Understand strategies of interdisciplinary collaboration that can be used by therapists working across a wide range of care environments.</li></ul><h3></h3><h3>About the Presenter </h3>Dr. Mendenhall is an accomplished Medical Family Therapist within the fields of collaborative family healthcare and community-based participatory research (CBPR) with a public health focus. He is an Associate Professor in the Couple and Family Therapy Program at the University of Minnesota. He is also the Associate Director of the UMN’s Citizen Professional Center, as well as Director of the university&#x27;s Medical Reserve Corps’ Mental Health Disaster-Response Teams. Dr. Mendenhall has five edited books published that detail the current understandings of intimate relationships and the newest applications of Medical Family Therapy. LocationThis is an in-person presentation by Dr. Tai Mendenhall held at Lorenz Clinic&#x27;s Rosemount clinic. Come meet our team and enjoy networking over light refreshments. Check-in starts at 9:30am and the presentation begins at 10:00am.
