The 2017-18 Palo Alto Parent Education Series kicks off with nationally acclaimed author of <A HREF="https://www.raisingdigitalnatives.com/screenwise/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World </A>and founder of<A HREF="https://www.raisingdigitalnatives.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Raising Digital Natives</A>, Dr. Devorah Heitner. 
 
In the digital world, no skill is more crucial than empathy. Dr. Heitner’s research shows that kids are highly attuned to relationship challenges and stressors that constantly-connected digital lives can create. Expanding on her popular TEDx talk, “Raising a Digital Native,” she shows how to mentor kids and teach them the criteria for making thoughtful decisions.
 
This inspiring presentation addresses empathy, boundaries, and etiquette that can set teens up for a lifetime of success as digital communicators.  You’ll learn what it’s like for adolescents to grow up in a world where school experiences, family life, and friendships are all shaped by digital connection—and how you can share your own social wisdom to mentor students to become the best people they can be.
 
Parents, students, educators, and community members welcome! Spanish/Mandarin interpretation will be available. Book sales and signing on site. Free admission.

Dr. Heitner holds a Ph.D. in Media/Technology/Society from Northwestern University, and has consulted with numerous independent and public schools. She is delighted to be raising her own digital native.
