Peking University Alumni Association of Northern California (PKUAANC) is a non-profit organization ( IRS 501 (c)(3) ) dedicated to connecting Peking University alumni in Northern California. In the spirit of the treasured legacy of Peking University - Science and Democracy, PKUAANC organizes social, academic and business activities with the purpose of assisting the professional and personal growth of our alumni, promoting communication between people in America and China.PKUAANC was officially founded in May 1992 with the efforts of many alumni. Dr. Charlene Liao, a Genentech veteran with more than 20 years’ experience as a scientist and drug developer, is now President and CEO of Immune-Onc Therapeutics, Inc. (“Immune-Onc”), an immuno-oncology startup developing innovative therapeutic antibodies for cancer treatment. In this seminar, Dr. Liao will share her personal stories in science, drug development and entrepreneurship.  Dr. Liao will also give a brief overview of Immune-Onc, currently hiring highly self-motivated professionals in antibody engineering, protein sciences, assay development, and project management (resume submission to info@immuneonc.com).

Speaker Bio
Trained as an immunologist with leaders in the field, Dr. Charlene Liao has a deep appreciation of the immune system and its applications in immuno-oncology. She worked in biotech and pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years as a scientist, business development director, and drug developer, before co-founding Immune-Onc Therapeutics, Inc. in 2016 and serving as its President and CEO.
During her nearly 14-year tenure at Genentech/Roche, Dr. Liao has led global drug development from pre-clinical to phase 3, including numerous INDs/CTAs for 10 innovative drugs in therapeutic areas such as immunology, oncology, infectious and metabolic diseases. The first drug Dr. Liao helped to bring to clinic, Ocrevus, is approved in 2017 to treat multiple sclerosis with billion-dollar sales forecasted.
She holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Peking University and a Ph.D. in Biology from Brandeis University. She conducted postdoctoral research in immunology at UCSF where she was a Fellow of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Fund and a Special Fellow of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.
Dr. Liao is one of the founding members and Board of Directors of the Ray Wu Memorial Fund, a member of the Executive Council of PKU-BIO Teacher Fund, and a Board Member of CBIS (Chinese Biological Investigators Society).
        廖晓伶博士，Immune-Onc Therapeutics, Inc. 共同创始人、总裁兼首席执行官。
        毕业于北京大学生物系本科；保送北大研究生院；通过CUSBEA（中美分子生物学生物化学联合招生；吴瑞项目）选拔赴美到布兰迪斯大学生物系就读并获得哲学博士学位， 师从今年获得诺贝尔奖的 Michael Rosbash；后进入加州大学旧金山分校微生物及免疫学系进行博士后研究，获得Damon Runyon 癌症研究基金会博士后奖学金及美国白血病及淋巴癌协会高级博士后奖学金（Special Fellow Award）。2013 年5月获美国斯坦福商学院（Stanford Graduate School of Business）高管培训。
        廖晓伶博士放弃受聘于有终身教职机会 （Tenure Track）的大学和研究院而进入企业界，担任美国Tularik Inc.（现是Amgen，美国安进公司）科学家； 美国Rigel Pharmaceuticals Inc. 高级科学家兼项目领导并拥有多项专利；继而转任技术评估和引进副主任；商务拓展部主任。
        廖晓伶博士2002年起任美国基因泰克Genentech Inc. （曾是世界第一个，美国第一大生物技术公司） 药物开发高级项目领导， 成功领导多种创新药物的临床研发， 包括小分子（化学）和 大分子（生物）药品， 也包括癌症，免疫，代谢，神经，病毒及其他多种疾病的药物开发。基因泰克自2009年为瑞士跨国公司罗氏并购， 成为其成员公司之一。廖晓伶在2011和2012分别代表罗氏和基因泰克接待中国驻旧金山总领事馆，中国国家科技部，卫生部和药监部的专程访问， 介绍公司的创新经验。
        廖晓伶于2016年5月离开基因泰克／罗氏， 在美国硅谷组建创新药物公司 Immune-Onc Therapeutics, Inc. 并担任总裁兼首席执行官。她是非赢利机构“吴瑞纪念基金会”发起人之一及董事会成员，曾任非赢利机构“北美华人生物医药协会” (CABS) 常务委员，兼商业与事业发展部共同主席。她目前是百华药协 (BayHelix) 成员，北京大学生命科学院尊师基金理事会成员， 以及华人生物学家协会 (Chinese Biological Investigators Society or CBIS) 理事会成员。
