West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) will host Keeping White Lake Water Clean Water Quality Forum at Fruitland Township Hall, 4545 Nestrom Road, Whitehall MI, 49461 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The forum will be in person and cover the following topics: an update on the cleanup of the DuPont/Chemours site; emerging threats to water quality, such as E. coli and toxic algae; how green infrastructure (such as rain barrels and tree plantings) can address stormwater runoff pollution; climate change and the Great Lakes, and an overview of septic systems, their contributions to water quality problems, and best practices for management.Speakers are Michael Eslick, operations manager for Public Health Muskegon County; Dr. Rick Rediske, senior program manager &amp; professor at GVSU-Annis Water Resources Institute; Aaron Parker, senior aquatic biologist for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE); Carlos Calderon, water programs manager for WMEAC; Claire Schlaff, chairwoman of the Chemours Environmental Impact Committee (CEIC); and Dr. Kevin B. Strychar, professor at GVSU-Annis Water Resources Institute.The water quality forum is part of a larger Keep White Lake Water Clean Project that includes several other educational events scheduled into the fall.
