Join Katarina Fitzpatrick on Thursday, July 14 in an exploratory movement session as a part of our monthly series Making Moves.

Fitzpatrick, who presented an evening-length work with Making Moves this past April, will utilize elements from her creative process to inform this community experience. This Improv Jam is appropriate for dancers and movers of all abilities and backgrounds and is open to all.Masks required indoors. When creating, she imagines how someone would act/react absent social convention, consequences, or judgment. She thinks people are most fulfilled together, but most interesting when they think they are alone. Her performance practice strives to bridge that gap. The resulting movements can be familiar, relatable, idiosyncratic, bizarre, and/or uncomfortable.Katarina graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mercyhurst University where she earned a B.A. in Dance (choreography concentration) and Archaeology/Anthropology (sociocultural anthropology concentration). As a student, she presented work at ACDFA and dance department mainstage concerts as a selected student choreographer. In Kansas City, she has directed dance and theatrical productions for the Kansas City Fringe Festival, choreographed a multimedia dance installation, and set both site-specific and concert works for KC Contemporary Dance. She has also contributed short pieces to local showcases including National Dance Week and Along the Line. She performs as a company member with KC Contemporary Dance and as an independent artist with creators and companies including Suzanne Ryan-Strati, Quixotic, andCity in Motion. Committed to helping all bodies move with stability and grace, she teaches Pilates and dance as adaptable lifelong practices.ABOUT MAKING MOVESMaking Moves is a monthly dance performance series located in Kansas City, MO, curated and produced by Kyle Mullins. Making Moves is dedicated to the creation and development of new works by local and regional dance makers and to expose Kansas City audiences to a wider array of contemporary dance making.Making Moves provides area choreographers, dancers, and audiences the opportunity to share in the process of new and experimental work in both traditional and non-traditional performance venues.
