The <A STYLE="color: #0278b8; text-decoration-line: none; padding-top: 0px;" HREF="http://star.szns.gov.cn/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">2017 Shenzhen Nanshan Innovation "Venture Star" Startup Competition</A> is open for registration after last year's successful competition. This year, CSPA and BASIC (Blue Angel Startups & Innovation Club) once again are the co-organizers of the Silicon Valley competition. We like to invite innovative startups from Silicon Valley to participate in this year's competition.
To help establish China's Shenzhen Nanshan district as an international innovation center, and to strengthen and expand the cooperation and relationship with various business partners internationally, a business delegation of the Shenzhen Nanshan "Venture Star" Competition have visited Silicon Valley. 
During their trip to the US, the business delegation will visit some technology companies, top universities, innovative enterprises and incubators/accelerators in Silicon Valley. The goal is to establish relationships and cooperative opportunities on innovative hi-tech projects and to learn about venture investment opportunities. To achieve the "Going out" and "Bringing in” strategies, this trip would help accelerate the development of science and technological innovation in the Nanshan district and the Shenzhen province.
If you’re a startup with technology-enabled innovative products/services that can solve big real world problems, benefit a large population and like to get exposure to China, please apply to be an in-person contestant to this year's Innovation of Shenzhen "Venture Star" Competition (Silicon Valley round). 
Eligibility Requirements
1. Growth Stage Startup Category:

<LI>Small and medium size business with innovative technology and fast growing capability.</LI>
<LI>Founded less than 5 years ago, i.e. after January 2012, with revenue less than US$30 Million.</LI>

While there may be some potential investors from the visiting business delegation from China, this is not a fund raising event. This is a startup competition where you are entering to pitch your startup in person in real time to a panel of on-site and China-based judges. Your pitch will be judged based on the problem/opportunuity your startup is solving, technological innovation, product-market fit, team strength and business model.
There will be at least 5 local judges made up of local angel investors or VCs from the SF/Bay Area.
 
 
CONTEST AWARDS
Total contest awards for winners amount to RMB 7 Million (approx. US$1 Million), with the following categories. Silicon Valley contestants will come under either Category 1 or 2:
1. Developing Enterprise Group*: Total 20 winners (Total prizes at 3.1M RMB） First Prize: 1 winner @ 500,000 RMB Second Prize: 2 winners @ 300,000 RMB/each Third Prize： 3 winners @ 200,000 RMB/each Outstanding Prize: 14 winners @ 100,000 RMB/each 2. Startups Group*: Total 20 winners (Total prizes at 1.7M RMB) First Prize: 1 winner @ 300,000 RMB Second Prize: 2 winners @ 200,000 RMB/each Third Prize： 3 winners @ 100,000 RMB/each Outstanding Prizes: 14 winners @ 50,000 RMB/each 3. Innovative Undergraduate Group: Total 20 winners (Total prizes at 0.7M RMB) First Prize: 1 winner @ 100,000 RMB Second Prize: 2 winners @ 80,000 RMB/each Third Prize: 3 winners @ 50,000 RMB/each Outstanding Prize: 14 winners @ 20,000 RMB/each Several other prizes totaling 1M RMB includes: Division Cooperation Award, Service Supporting Award, Startup Mentors Ward. Cooperation and Contest Development: Total 0.5M RMB. Each winner will also receive a certificate and a trophy.
Compeitition winners may also enjoy other benefits including policy support from the Shenzhen Nanshan district government, investment/financing opportunities, entrepreneurial/incubator space at the Nanshan district and business services support including entrepreneurial training, mentoring, intellectual property application, local talent acquisition assistance, promotional support etc.

Time allocated per contestant: 3 minutes presentation followed by 1 to 2 minutes of Q&A (if your pitch is in English, we will summarize your pitch in Chinese for the judges within 1 min at the end of your pitch, before another 1 min of Q&A)

You will be presenting to a panel of onsite judges and several offsite judges based in Shenzhen/Nanshan, China. We expect around 50 startups to participate in this Silicon Valley round 2 contest.
Please submit your pitch deck or business plan in PowerPointformat and not PDF, to allow proper slide paging on the projector.
* Startups belonging to the Developing Enterprise Group must not be more than 5 years old (registered after Jan 1, 2011) with 2016 annual sales not exceeding 150 Million RMB (US$22.8M). The core team belonging to the Startup Group must not be less than 3 people and will establish their business within 6 months of the competition.
