What&#x27;s your vision of Black liberation?Join us in collaboration with the African Diaspora Alliance for a celebration of Black liberation! Featuring theatrical performance &quot;200 Years of Returns&quot;- a dramatic, musical, and dance performance which focuses on the manumission, repatriation, and freedom dreams of Black people living in the DMV and those who received them in the land now called Liberia, we will also have special guest African diaspora artists! Held on Liberian Independence Day, July 26th, this performance draws out the tensions embedded in the bicentennial of the (re)settlement of Black people from the US in West Africa. What does it mean to return to the place of your ancestors? How do we understand the making of the African diaspora? How can artists challenge the myths of the shared history between the US and Liberia? What are some of the freedom dreams of African and African diaspora performing artists? Enjoy performances by actors from B4 Youth Theatre Liberia in collaboration with several Black museum theater actor interpreters from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and Baltimore-based dancers in this historical and anthropological account of the circles, cycles, interactions and encounters of Black people on both sides of the Atlantic in the early 19th century. Kombilesa Mi is a unique ensemble-preserving their cultural heritage while creating original hip hop music. Much in the vain of hip hop culture in the USA, Kombilesa Mi has created a strong identity and community, using hip hop to teach their native palenquero language and cultural heritage.Kombilesa Mi&#x27;s connection, awareness, and joy of their African roots is infectious and incredibly important to claim in Colombian culture and in the diaspora. Colombia has the second highest percentage of African descendants after Brazil in Latin America. In the United States there is a growing Afro-Latino movement and serves to educate, uplift and to bridge communities. The band’s presence is incredibly eye opening and important in a time of increased violence, ignorance and loss of languages.Weaving in call and response, dance, and traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms, Kombilesa Mi engages the audience in a high energy and interactive performance.Join us!DIRECTIONS: Bloomberg Hall can be found off of San Martin Drive, just past the Space Telescope Science Institute, with the Muller Deck being the nearest parking garage. Place in your GPS INN AT THE COLONNADE4 west university parkway Baltimore, MD Pass Canterbury Road And take a left on San Martin drive take the first left where it says “Visitors Parking” Muller Deck Parking Lot You will see a large sign to the left that says home of the Blue Jays and you will also see The Army ROTC sign NOTE : In spite of signage that says parking by permit only for our event we have special permission to park here therefore the gate will be open for you to park there with no issue. You can park where it says pay to park or inside of the lot. You will be at the back of the building walk to the front of the building. Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy - the name of the auditorium is Norman I Schafler. There will be signs and volunteers to guide you!
