2022 National Conference on Alcohol & Other Substance Use in Women & Girls: Advances in Prevention, Treatment and Recovery, Oct 20-21, 2022

This scientific conference will review key findings from current research on the causes, consequences, prevention, and treatment of harmful alcohol, opioid, and other substance use among women and girls, and best approaches to sustaining recovery. The overarching goal of the conference is to identify important directions for future research on harmful alcohol and opioid use among women and girls, and to highlight strategies that are already working to address these problems, with the goal of replicating and bringing effective interventions to population scale. In addition, the conference will provide a platform for the development of a coordinated public-private response to recent alarming trends in harmful substance use among women. Equally important is the opportunity to provide a setting where stakeholders from diverse professional backgrounds and communities can be energized and motivated to start new collaborations and to strengthen existing ones. A key cross-cutting theme will be eliminating the health effects of discrimination based on race, sex, and other historically marginalized identities. The purpose of this national conference is to:1)	Disseminate findings from the latest research on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of alcohol and other substance misuse among girls and women, including strategies to prevent HIV infection/disease progression, and substance-exposed pregnancies.2)	Develop a coalition of stakeholder organizations and researchers to devise a blueprint for a comprehensive public-private response to ameliorate harmful substance use among women and girls.3)	Promote recovery and reduce stigma among girls and women living with problematic substance use, including those living with comorbidities, including HIV/AIDS.4)	Discuss strategies to increase community engagement and participation in research on harmful substance use and multimorbidities in women and girls across the lifespan. Target audiences are: <ul><li>General Health Care Providers (including physicians, nurses, counselors) </li><li>Addiction Prevention and Treatment Professionals (including addiction counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, psychiatric nurses, pastoral counselors, clinic directors, program administrators, etc.) </li><li>Health Policymakers</li><li>Addiction Researchers</li><li>Faith Leaders</li><li>Community Leaders</li><li>Education Professionals K-12 (including principals, school board members, teachers, and school nurses)</li></ul>The Conference is hosted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the Interagency Work Group on Drinking and Drug Use in Women and Girls.It is sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institutes of Health, US Department of Health and Human Services.This conference is FREE of charge and open to the public.
