Un Baile Más Libre is an alcohol-free dance class + party for LGBTQIA+ adults in Chicago.

THE HONEYCOMB NETWORK

Adi Barreto (they/he) will be leading us through a warm-up, the basics of Bachata, partner work, and afterwards, will host a dance space for folks to practice what they’ve learned. We’re serving herbal iced tea from resident herbalist at The HoneyComb Network.We deserve spaces where all of our identities get to exist. Many people are pressured to choose between their sexuality &amp;/or gender expression and their culture. This event has been designed to hold our nuances, to create a space that centers community, dignity, connection, and playfulness. This space is not about perfectionism. If you’ve never danced to bachata, this space is for you. If you’ve never danced anything before, this space is also for you. We’re taking the time to break down the movements, get connected to our bodies, and connect to the music. You’ll learn consent practices that you can use in any social dance setting and even get the chance to practice everything you’ve learned after the class. No dance partner is required to attend the event. At this event, we’ll honor our elderly and disabled kin by providing hand sanitizer, wearing masks, and requiring vaccination status. This space will center LGBTQIA+ BIPOC folks - if anyone is causing harm or harassing attendees, they will be asked to leave with no refund. About Adi: Adi Mendiola Barreto (they/he) is a 2nd generation Mexican and Puerto Rican queer, trans, sober, non-binary somatic practitioner, facilitator, and bodyworker. Adi is certified in Trauma-Informed Somatics Therapy, which is based off ancestral wisdom that believes our body is the keeper of our own healing. Adi uses natural elements and cultural practices to help us connect back to our bodies and one another. Adi offers 1-1 sessions, workshop facilitations, and bodywork and mainly serves queer and trans people of color. When he isn’t in session, you can find him dancing to bachata, salsa, merengue, cumbia, or house (if you’re also from Chicago, ya tu sabe). Growing up Adi learned to dance at family parties with their tios &amp; cousins playing the guitarra, congas, bongos, y güira. Their love for music, community and dancing hasn’t stopped. Adi has trained with professionals and amateurs alike in Chicago, NYC, Seattle, and Oakland.
