Vocal Vibrance: Spoken Voice Training (In Person)

In today’s hectic world it’s easy to neglect, or to even be unaware of, good vocal practices, thus falling into repetitive patterns and poor vocal habits. Take some time with this workshop to focus your attention on this powerful means of interaction.

Your voice is perhaps your most important communication tool, capable of a great variety of expressions. Increase the range, power, and connection to your voice so that you are both heard and felt. Participants will gain skills to vocally fill a space with ease and authenticity using a variety of approaches, combining breath, body, and voice work. Small group interaction will also be included.

This half-day offering is a prelude to a deeper dive course coming in 2023.

D'Arcy Smith is a Professor of Voice, Speech and Dialects at The University of Cincinnati. He was a resident voice, text and dialect coach at the Guthrie Theater and has worked as a teacher and voice/dialect coach in the United States, U.K., Canada and New Zealand.

He brings over 20 years of experience as a professional actor, coach and teacher of performers, working on well over a 100 productions and as well as with Riot Games and Ubisoft. He has trained extensively in a variety of voice techniques to help serve every level and voice type. You can learn more about him and his work on his website.

Covid Considerations: Masks are currently optional at the Hive. Individuals may choose to wear a mask for personal protection, and as always, we ask anyone who is feeling sick or has a high temperature to not attend Hive gatherings until they are recovered.
